For those unaware, Vasiliy Lomachenko just took on George Kambosos Jr. at the RAC Arena in Perth. With the two boxers often in and around each other’s orbit, a showdown between them was always touted and teased. That said, the opportune moment for them to finally throw down arrived at the right time and resulted in a resounding victory for Lomachenko.

In what was essentially a complete and utter shutout pitched by Vasiliy Lomachenko, he once again became a champion. Having lost to Devin Haney last year, there were serious talks about Loma potentially reaching the end of his illustrious career. Instead, the former WBA (Super), WBO, and The Ring lightweight champion now finds himself as the holder of the IBF lightweight title.
Bob Arum commends Vasiliy Lomachenko’s sublime performance
By all means, it was one of his most impressive performances in recent times. Now moving up to 18-3, Vasiliy Lomachenko has breathed life into his seemingly fading career. However, the manner in which he went about his business on Saturday night made fans and others optimistic about a second wind in Loma’s career. Seeing that he has a tendency to come alive in the latter parts of his fights, it would make a lot of sense.
That said, Top Rank Boxing CEO Bob Arum had some high praise for Lomachenko as well. According to the 92-year-old, it was like seeing the superstar as he was in his first professional bout back in 2013.
“Well, it was a brilliant performance and for me, it was having seen his first professional fight, it was almost like turning back the clock. This was a vintage Loma performance and I really believe that if he’s gonna continue in this sport, that he is going to be even more dominant in the next few fights that he has.”
All things considered, the mere mention of Vasiliy Lomachenko and his next few fights will have a lot of people excited. Having found his hunger and determination once again, it is clear that a career resurgence for the 36-year-old boxer is nigh. Whilst there are a couple of very obvious rematches for him to pursue, he has also registered interest in another big-name fighter.
Vasiliy Lomachenko hints at future plans with response to Gervonta Davis
First things first, one must fully understand how dominant Vasiliy Lomachenko was on the night. Taking on the IBO lightweight champion, Loma showed a clear gap in the skill level between himself and George Kambosos. As he usually does, the Ukrainian took the backseat for the opening exchanges, evading whatever Kambosos had to offer, before countering with his heavy left hand.
By Round 10, a shocking statistic appeared on everybody’s screen wherein Kambosos had failed to register 10 or more punches in any of the Rounds. Shifting his focus to the body of the already bleeding Aussie, ‘The Matrix’ turned his attention to damaging his opponent’s body in the latter half of the fight. Ultimately, his decision paid dividends with Loma being able to knock down his man.
Vasyl Lomachenko on Gervonta Davis calling him out: “You know, during my boxing career I’ve never run around and I’ve always taken fights. After I rest a little bit, we can talk about the future.”

Although Kambosos beat the count, he was swarmed immediately after, forcing him to the ground, whilst his corner threw in the towel. As Vasiliy reveled in his glory and success, he was seemingly called for by Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis, who is currently scheduled to face Frank Martin on June 15, 2024. When posed with the question, Lomachenko, expressed his interest in the same, potentially in the near future.
