- While speaking with Ryan Satin, he shared the inspirational story behind his weight loss.
Gunther is one of the most brutal performers in the history of professional wrestling. His raw and ruthless style is what makes him different. Being the longest-reigning Intercontinental Champion in WWE’s history, The Ring General has been dominating the scene lately. His outstanding performances against several high-tier opponents have earned him a lot of recognition.
It should be mentioned that WWE Superstar Gunther just overtook Pedro Morales to become the WWE Intercontinental Champion with the longest combined reign in terms of days. Gunther has been in the lead for more than 600 days. Pedro Morales, on the other hand, is said to have retained the title for a total of 617 days after winning it twice.
As the head of the Imperium stable in the WWE, Gunther has been dazzling the fans with his antics for several months. He has also taken part in multiple pay-per-view events and been featured in multiple storylines. As a result, his followers frequently discuss his dominance with the title. However, his amazing weight-loss journey is something else that his fans frequently discuss.
Gunther looked entirely different when he was a member of the NXT UK roster in the past. But as soon as he was added to the starting lineup, he showed off an amazing weight drop. It surprised a lot of fans and was generally noticeable. Meanwhile, it should be mentioned that, despite losing a significant amount of weight, he maintained his dominance in the ring.
Gunther lost nearly 65 pounds in his epic physical transformation
The Ring General took a toll on himself when he started his weight-loss journey. In case you were wondering, Gunther said he shed about 60 to 65 pounds speaking with Ryan Satin on Out of Character. Notwithstanding his fondness for his previous, bulkier appearance, which was influenced by giants of wrestling, during this shift, Gunther made it possible.
“I lost about 60 or 65 pounds. I always loved the look of the big Japanese heavyweights like Stan Hansen, Terry Gordy, Vader, Scott Norton, like those chunky foreign heavyweights,” stated Gunther. He further added, “I think if you’re in the top league on national television every week, and you want to represent the top tier athletes, you have to be in shape to do so.”
Gunther also appeared in several other interviews discussing his weight-loss journey. He gave his main roster arrival one of the main reasons for his transformation. The leader of the Imperium continued by saying that he was overjoyed that he had chosen to undergo a bodily metamorphosis. The Ring General, however, has undergone a dramatic transformation since his previous appearance.
Gunther changed his ring name while transitioning to the main roster
Gunther, who was once Walter, was the commanding head of Imperium during his NXT days. He went through a huge transition while moving to the main roster in 2022. His ring name was changed to Gunther from Walter, which wasn’t well received by fans. As time passed, he turned out to be an amazing talent. After losing to Bron Breakker in his last NXT bout, The Ring General was added to the main roster.
But after he was added to the main roster, something amazing happened. It’s clear from comparing photos from his time on NXT that Gunther lost a lot of weight. Because of his past heavyweight status, which made him appear like a vicious monster in the ring, he was much more intimidating.

He credited his accomplishment in losing weight to a mixture of good food and the encouragement of Ludwig Kaiser and Giovanni Vinci, two Imperium allies who kept him on course. That being said, it is unclear what is in store for Gunther in the days ahead. It will be intriguing to see the WWE Intercontinental Champion give his devoted fans more personal information, though.
