- The 19-year-old wants to be known for the person he is and not as LeBron James' son.
There were a lot of takeaways from Bronny James’ workout during the NBA Draft Combine. While his measurements were quite off in comparison to what information the NCAA provided, the 19-year-old certainly made it a point to base his case completely on what he can do on the floor. Throughout his stint with the USC Trojans, Bronny didn’t have much time on the floor, at least not as much as he wished to. But he still proved himself to be an elite role player.

The biggest takeaway from his session was that he can shoot the ball pretty consistently. His athleticism was also a huge factor that scouts should take into consideration before going ahead to the draft. But there is a lingering weight on him following in his father’s footsteps. And LeBron James certainly has a legacy that may never be matched for years.
Bronny James doesn’t think about fulfilling LeBron James’ dreams
Over the years, LeBron James has been vocal about his dream to compete alongside Bronny James before he retires. This may have been a major factor in the youngster’s decision to participate in this year’s draft. It’s evident that the 39-year-old Los Angeles Lakers has limited time left to play but Bronny isn’t prioritising his father’s dreams over his.
He said, “When I get there I don’t think it would just be like, me and my dad. I would be happy about getting to the league instead of thinking about playing with my dad. That’s not my mindset at all, I’m just trying to put in the work and see where it takes me.” The former USC star also addressed the possibility of teams using him as bait to acquire his father.
“Honestly, I feel like this is a serious business. And don’t feel like there will be like a thought drafting this kid just because of, ‘I’m going to get his dad.’ I don’t think a GM would really allow that,” he said during the media interview following the combine. James has been cleared by the NBA medical team to compete in the league. He seems determined to go pro as well.
Bronny James compares himself to some of the biggest role players in the NBA
LeBron himself has given his son credit for going out of his way and creating a name for himself rather than being known as LeBron James Jr. or his son. Bronny James also doesn’t want people to remember him based on his father’s name. He said, “Everyone’s heard this before, I just want to have people know my name is Bronny James and not being identified as just LeBron James’ son.”

Scouts have been claiming that Bronny has good potential to be an impactful role player on any team that drafts him. He also compared himself to players like Jrue Holiday, Davion Mitchell, and Derrick White. Even though several people believe that it’s way too early for James to come into the league, he could utilize his first few years to develop his skillset and understand where he can have the most impact on a roster.
