Liam Lawson is a driver from New Zealand who is driving in the Super Formula Championship 2023. Alongside driving for his team Mugen at the Super Formula Championship, he is also a reserved driver for AlphaTauri in Formula 1. Before he received a seat at AlphaTauri as their reserve driver, he was a part of the Red Bull Junior racing team. The New Zealand driver has also won the championship title at the Toyota Racing Series.
This would not be Lawson’s first time driving in a Red Bull car. He has driven for the Red Bull AF Corse at Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters alongside Alex Albon. Lawson missed out on winning the championship title by just a little. He has also contested in the Formula 3 championships and driven for MP Motorsports. He shared his time in Formula 3 with Yuki Tsunoda and soon took the road to the Indy series.
Liam Lawson competed in the DTM series and came really close to winning the championship title. Lawson had won multiple races that season and had enough podium finishes, however, it was at the final race that he would lose his chance at winning the championship.
After DTM, Lawson went on to pursue his racing at Formula 2. Nonetheless, Liam decided to leave Formula 2 by the end of 2022 and went on to compete in Super Formula for Team Mugen. The New Zealand driver is active on Twitter and Instagram.
Liam Lawson will drive for AlphaTauri at Zandvoort
Soon Liam Lawson received news of him flying off to Formula 1. The 2023 Dutch Grand Prix will be taking place at the Zandvoort race track this weekend. However, for Daniel Ricciardo, his coming back has not been so great. After barely making it close to the points, he will now be sitting out of a race. The first practice of the Zandvoort race happened on Friday.
During the race, Daniel Ricciardo ended up in a collision with the wall. In this process, the Australian had his wrist hurt which was later confirmed to be broken. With this, rumors were flying that another driver would be replacing Ricciardo for the weekend. Before the confirmation even came around, the rumors of Nyck de Vries making a comeback started flying.
Nonetheless, the adamant Red Bull bosses confirmed that Liam Lawson will be driving for the injured driver on the weekend. This leaves Liam Lawson to have a chance at impressing one of the Formula 1 teams. If Lawson performs well this weekend, it can give him an opportunity to have a permanent Formula 1 seat. All eyes will be on the young reserve driver for the weekend.
