Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso have been rivals for a long time and in that, they have developed their friendship too. From being teammates in Hamilton’s rookie era to battling for a championship, the two have been around each other for quite some time.
While Alonso continues to drive for Aston Martin, Lewis Hamilton has stayed with his seventh title-winning team, Mercedes. Needless to say, they often are seen crossing paths on the paddock or at interviews. And some days they have each other’s backs.
Recently, Lewis Hamilton signed a contract extension with his team. It was the most anticipated news of the season as Hamilton would have been out of contract by the end of 2023. However, a lot of people had mixed reactions to the news. While some were happy, others weren’t prepared to watch him lose two more seasons. The contract extension was announced yesterday and the details mention that he will be staying until 2025.

When Fernando Alonso was asked how he felt about Hamilton’s contract, he was more than happy. Fernando Alonso would want Lewis Hamilton in his team if he were a team boss
Fernando Alonso has been a rival to Hamilton since their first season together as teammates. That is when the Brit successfully beat Alonso and won his first championship. However, being the oldest and most experienced drivers on the grid, they can now be seen joking around. Nonetheless, this friendship has bloomed over the course of a long time of battles.
So Fernando was indirectly asked if he was excited to see Hamilton on the track for two more years. To this, he had an answer ready. When talking to Mundo Deportivo, Alonso said, “If I were the boss team now and I had to choose Hamilton or the youngest on the grid or a promising F2 driver, well I’ll stay with Hamilton until I’m 80 years old, because until someone shows me that he’s faster than Hamilton”,

Even though the drivers have had riffs between them, the respect has remained mutual. Nonetheless, Alonso believes Hamilton still had his speed and skills with him. He mentioned how he would too choose Hamilton to be in his team if he ever becomes a team boss. Additionally, he praised the Brit for his pace and mentioned his many achievements making it clear that Hamilton is still the fastest on the grid.
