Lewis Hamilton was in the talks of his contract extension for a long time. After a while, it was believed that the reason for the delay was because of the parties not being able to reach an agreement. There were also talks of Hamilton wanting a bigger package for the contract extension. However, none of it was confirmed as the drivers and Toto Wolff struggled to meet on common grounds.
Nonetheless, Toto Wolff expressed his need to have Hamilton on the Mercedes team more than once. The Brit has given his everything for the Silver Arrows team. From his second championship title to his seventh, he has brought the team 7 constructor’s championships.
Although the team has won 8 consecutive constructor’s championships with the Brit. However, with his contract ending by the end of this season, the Mercedes team has put in extra time to get to the bottom of Hamilton’s contract.
So far, the driver has said to have proved his loyalty to his team. He turned down Ferrari in order to stay with Mercedes. It has been confirmed that Lewis Hamilton has finalized his contract extension. He has signed a contract which was going to be announced at the Dutch Grand Prix, however, there have been no signs of it.
Toto Wolff gives an update on Hamilton’s contract
When Toto Wolff, the team boss was asked about the driver’s contract and why it is being delayed, the boss confirmed there was nothing to worry about. The contract extension was planned to be announced before the Dutch Grand Prix, but with the race only a day away, there have been no talks let alone an announcement.
However, the Mercedes team boss has confirmed there is nothing it worry about. When talking to Sky Sports Italia, he said, “No, it’s just tiny details like marketing stuff. Nothing I’m worried about,”
The Mercedes boss confirmed that the reason for the delay is minor issues. The team has been in the discussion for tiny marketing details in Hamilton’s contract. This has left the extension to be delayed. Not too long ago, it was confirmed that the seven-time champion would have no ambassadorial duties after his retirement from the team. However, the team and the fans all anticipate the contract extension announcement.
While the champion gets ready for yet another race at the Zandvoort race tracks. The team has won a few podiums this season. If Hamilton drives himself to a podium again, he will beat Fernando Alonso in the championship standings.
