Sergio Perez has a target on his back for quite a while. Ever since his crash in Monaco, it has become more and more stressful for him to do any better. Although resurging back to his potential one step at a time in the recent races, he might have it all or lose it all. Perez’s journey so far can be called a rocky road at Red Bull, with a star driver right next to him.
Perez also opened up about his frustrations and stresses of being a teammate to a World Champion who is dominating the sport right now. Things were not looking up after Sergio Perez’s constant poor performances compared to his race-winning teammate.
And soon enough the rumors about him losing his seat started circulating. Daniel Ricciardo who made his way back to Red Bull, was rumored to be replacing Sergio Perez. However, all the rumors turned out to be false. Helmut Marko made the decision to have Daniel replace Nyck de Vries at AlphaTauri and confirmed Sergio Perez would not be losing his seat.
Will Daniel Ricciardo switch places with Sergio Perez?
While Sergio Perez holds his place at Red Bull, there might be a reason he might not get a demotion for his poor performance after all. Perez has been gaining back his place as a Red Bull driver and outperforming his past qualification performances. But another poor performance might cost him a switch with Daniel Ricciardo.
However, recently Helmut Marko made it clear that there was no way Perez could get demoted to AlphaTauri. Marko who before had made it clear that Perez was holding his seat only because of championship points might not get sent back to junior’s league. And it is all because of his contract.
Perez has fought through thick and thin and found himself again to get back on his feet. Although he is only keeping his seat at Red Bull because of his contract. When Helmut had signed, Perez made sure that getting demoted to AlphaTauri due to poor performance will not be included.
This meant that he will keep his seat at Red Bull or lose it all at once. Although his performances lately have been promising, Helmut believes he is taking a strong chance. His qualifications at Spa were impressive compared to the ones before. He earned himself a P3 for the race while Max Verstappen is sent back to P6.
He also made a great comeback at the Hungarian Grand Prix last week. Although starting from a P9 at the Hungaroring, he finished on the podium. With the Spa GP around the corner and his P2, all eyes will be on him again.
