Over the last few months, Sergio Perez has been having trouble finding confidence in the car. However, he has been turning things around in the last few races. He finished P2 in the Italian Grand Prix after an entertaining battle with the Ferraris.
The Mexican driver has often had trouble during qualifying this season. He even struggled to get into Q3 for a few races. While his qualifying has improved he is still not able to match Max Verstappen. This fact has come to light in recent races.
Sergio Perez qualified 5th on the grid for the Italian Grand Prix while Max Verstappen was 2nd. While Max Verstappen went on to win the race, The Mexican driver had to fight against both the Ferraris to earn his second position.
We fought hard through all the race. Great job by the whole team, and thanks to all the Mexican fans who came to support us.

“I am very satisfied,” Perez said after the race. “But we did have a terrible Saturday in terms of problems that we encountered during the third training session. Those problems then ruined our qualifying, so I think we would have been in a better starting position if they hadn’t been there. In the end, we certainly made a lot of progress during the race, and I think we made a good choice about the direction we took. I suddenly feel a lot more comfortable in the car.”
A few days back Sergio Perez claimed that the car was suiting Max Verstappen’s driving style more than his. However, he seems to be getting adjusted to the car slowly now. He has shown some slow improvement in his performance. He still sits in 2nd place in the Championship, but 145 points behind his teammate. Since he claims he is slowly getting adjusted to the car, we can expect some things from him in the coming races.
Will Sergio Perez put an end to Max Verstappen’s winning streak at the Singapore Grand Prix?
There is no doubt that Max Verstappen will be crowned Champion of the 2023 season. Writing his name on the trophy is just a formality as of now. However, he is currently on an unbelievable winning streak that has never been witnessed in the sport.
After the Italian Grand Prix, Max Verstappen has won 10 races in a row. This record was previously held by Sebastian Vettel who had won 9 races in a row. A lot of experts believe that the soon-to-be 3-time Champion will continue this streak for a while. However, a certain Mexican driver might have something to say about that.

With Checo slowly getting adjusted to the car, he could likely put an end to Max Verstappen’s winning streak. So far, no driver apart from the Red Bull drivers has been able to win a race. The drivers have completed a total of 14 races this season. In all of these 14 races, the winner has either been Sergio Perez or Max Verstappen. Out of this, Max Verstappen alone has won 12 races.
Sergio Perez’s 2 race wins have come only in street circuits. His first came in Saudi Arabia while his next came in Azerbaijan. Checo is often considered to be the “king of the streets” due to his unique performances in street circuits. Since Singapore is also a famous and classic street circuit he could have an advantage here. After all, he did win the Singapore Grand Prix last year.
Let’s see if Sergio Perez can once again become the king of the streets and put a stop to Max Verstappen’s streak by winning the Singapore Grand Prix.
