For the past few weeks, Mercedes has been making some decent progress in their development. This has allowed Lewis Hamilton to put in some strong performances. However, the 7-time champion still seems to be unsure of the car’s capability to beat Max Verstappen and Red Bull this weekend.
When Lewis Hamilton was asked about his chances of winning the Brazilian Grand Prix, he said: “I really don’t know. After the last couple of races, people say it’s looking good but I’m not dazzled by where we are currently. I’m proud of the work the team has done and I’m trying to, solidify second in the Constructors’ but I predict Red Bull will blitz it.”
Although he was disqualified from the US Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton put in a strong performance to finish in 2nd place. The next weekend in Mexico, he put in another strong performance to finish 2nd place once again. This time around, the result stuck. This came after Mercedes brought a new floor upgrade for the US GP. This upgrade has increased the car’s downforce, making it easier to drive around the corners.

So there is no doubt that Mercedes is doing everything possible to help Lewis win. Last season, the Briton went the entire year without winning a race. He has stated that he does not plan on that happening this year as well.
With Mercedes’ recent progress, it could give Hamilton a good chance to win the race. During last season’s Brazilian Grand Prix, Mercedes had one of their best outings in a while as they were able to get a 1-2 finish with George taking the win. They will be hoping to do the same this year as well.
Lewis Hamilton & Co. complete promising FP1 outing at Brazilian GP
As the weekend of the Brazilian Grand Prix started, Mercedes started off with a promising result during FP1. Since there is only 1 free practice session for all the drivers, Lewis did not get the time to do all the simulations they would normally do.
When all the drivers did their lap times on hard tires, Lewis was 3rd fastest only behind the Red Bulls. Lewis was not able to put a fast lap on the mediums or the softs as time was limited and he had to get a lot of data from the hard tires.
Even George Russell put in a quick time as he finished 3rd while on mediums. He was only behind the Ferraris who had posted their fastest times with softs. The gap to Carlos Sainz in 1st was only 0.138 seconds. This shows that Mercedes has got some strong pace in them for the Brazilian Grand Prix. So Lewis Hamilton will be given the opportunity to win the race.

Hamilton will definitely have the support of the home fans. After all, he is an honorary Brazilian. So it will be interesting to see how the British driver performs in his 2nd home race of the season. There are not a lot of drivers who have 2 home races during a season. The only other driver is Logan Sargeant as F1 is hosting 3 races in the US this season.
