Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso have been known to have rivalry between them ever since they shared a Formula 1 career. Fernando had started back in 2001 in Formula 1 compared to Lewis Hamilton who started his career in 2007. Alonso has been around the longest in the sport witnessing Michael Schumacher, Lewis Hamilton and now Max Verstappen reigning the sport.
Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso started their journey together as teammates in the McLaren car. Before Hamilton was signed with McLaren, the Spaniard had won two consecutive World championships. After Lewis Hamilton’s entry, he had given Alonso a tough battle throughout the season.
He had won five podiums in five races while Alonso enjoyed his victory. Soon, the rookie found his first win at the Canadian Grand Prix against his Spaniard teammate.
Eventually, things started getting heated up between the two. They fought throughout the season for their title win. It would have been Alonso’s third title win or Lewis Hamilton’s first-ever World Championship. But by the end of the season, Kimi Raikkonen had taken away the title from them both by one point. Fernando Alonso then moved back to his Renault team while Hamilton continued his career in the McLaren.

Although Hamilton and Fernando Alonso’s rivalry fizzled out throughout the years, the two remained good friends. Although they are seen fighting for postitions on the race tracks, the two share a healthy rivalry. After the Canadian Grand Prix, the two, who were previously fighting for the second position behind Max Verstappen, got into a healthy and hilarious banter. They still share this friendship as drivers after their heated rivalry.
Recently, Lewis Hamilton had been asked on DAZN’s “True Driver” series whether he would want to share a team with Alonso again the Brit had said yes. He said, “If the stars aligned, yes, I would share a team with Fernando Alonso again, but I don’t think it will happen”
While Hamilton continues to drive for Mercedes, Fernando Alonso has switched multiple teams and now drives for Aston Martin. Hamilton confessed that he would in fact “love” being teammates with the Spaniard again. Although, according to the Brit, it may not be completely possible for it to ever happen.
With Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton still driving in Formula 1, they can be seen fighting each other for a spot once in a while. The tension and the intense rivalry have been called down as time has passed by. Although they don’t leave any chance to get involved in some hilarious and healthy banter after the races. While Hamilton has won seven World Championship titles, Fernando only has two.
