Before the start of the Singapore Grand Prix weekend, Toto Wolff gave an interview and gave an explanation for the statement he gave regarding Max Verstappen and his record-breaking race at the Italian Grand Prix.
While heading into the Singapore Grand Prix weekend, Toto Wolff said: “It may not have been the most intelligent thing to say, but that’s really my mindset. Nevertheless, you have to respect Red Bull’s achievements. The best driver in the best car becomes the champion.”
Soon after this statement, fans felt that Toto trying to escape the wrath of Max Verstappen. There is no doubt that Max is currently dominating the Formula 1 grid. Before the Singapore Grand Prix, Red Bull had won all the races this season. Max Verstappen lost only 2 races.

However, this streak came to an end at the 2023 Singapore Grand Prix. After qualifying 11th and 13th on the grid, Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez were unable to fight back for a podium finish. This allowed Carlos Sainz, Lando Norris, and Lewis Hamilton to take the podium after the race. However, Max did manage a top 5 finish just behind Charles Leclerc. Sergio Perez had to settle for an 8th-place finish, earning him just 3 points.
Overall it was a disappointing weekend for the Austrian outfit. However, the team seems to think that this was a one-time scenario. They think they will be back to their winning ways this week at the Japanese Grand Prix. it has been speculated that the layout of the Singapore Grand Prix did not suit the natural style of the RB19.
What was Toto Wolff’s Wikipedia comment about Max Verstappen?
After Max Verstappen broke the record for most consecutive wins, Toto Wolff was asked what he thought about the record. To this he said:
“I don’t know if he cares about the records. It is not something that would be important for me, those numbers, it is for Wikipedia and nobody reads that anyway.”
Soon after this, he received a lot of negative media. While the world was witnessing Max Verstappen’s greatness, Toto Wolff disregarded it pretty quickly. Ever since the 2022 season, Toto Wolff and Mercedes have been unable to fight for the Championship. This has allowed Red Bull to take the trophy in almost every race.

While Red Bull is busy winning races and Championships, Mercedes is busy trying to challenge them. However, it is not as easy as it sounds. In order to challenge the Red Bulls for a Championship, they will first have to develop their car. Winning 1 or 2 races will not be enough to win a Championship. To win a Championship, a team will have to perform well on a consistent basis.
