The 2024 Formula 1 season is just a few more weeks away. Fans were already expecting McLaren to be closer to Red Bull’s pace in 2024. This expectation came after the team was able to make some significant developments in the 2023 season.
Lando Norris had his best season in F1 so far in 2023. He was able to finish on the podium 7 times and scored 200 points. Although this was a remarkable achievement, the result could have been better if the team had the pace from the beginning of the season. It is natural for the fans to expect better things from the team in 2024.

This new marketing stunt has fans overexcited for the 2024 season. Some believe that McLaren has something up their sleeves that will allow them to take the fight to the Red Bulls. There is no doubt that the Papaya team has one of the strongest driver lineups on the grid.

Although Oscar Piastri is just coming off his rookie year, he has shown some incredible potential. In his rookie season, he was able to finish on the podium 2 times and was even able to beat both Red Bulls during a race. This accomplishment was done only by 2 drivers. Piastri did it during the Sprint Race in Qatar, and Carlos Sainz did it during the Singapore Grand Prix.
While fans were already having expectations from McLaren in 2024, the recent social media stunt has fueled these flames. It will be interesting to see how the team performs from the 2024 season onwards.
Is McLaren giving up their papaya identity?
Back in the 2000s, McLaren was running a chrome livery which was very popular and iconic. However, in 2017, the team decided to change their identity by going for a papaya orange. Since then, the team has stuck with their identity. However, the recent logo change on their social media pages could indicate something exciting for the team.
A lot of fans are now expecting a completely different livery for the 2024 season. While this could be true, it is unlikely that they will completely give up on the papaya identity. There is a possibility for the team to add a lot more black and reduce the orange and blue colors on the livery. Something similar to the stealth-mode livery which was used in Singapore and Japan. The team got podiums in both of these races.

There are 2 posts on their Instagram account. Both of the posts feature the tagline, “Whatever It Takes”. However, the team has maintained the orange McLaren logo in the posts. But we can expect something special from the team in this upcoming season. It has been rumored that McLaren will reveal their 2024 challenger on February 14th which is the same date as Mercedes.
It will be exciting to see if McLaren goes for new colors for the upcoming season. A black McLaren with a hint of papaya orange would be a contender for the best-looking car on the grid. But let’s wait and see.
