SUMMARY
- Fernando Alonso couldn't help but offer a snide reply to Hamilton's Mercedes exit.
- Alonso questions Hamilton's motive behind making such a big decision, which was also quoted as a "childhood dream".
Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton are opposites in almost every way, constantly getting back at each other in variable fashions. And of course, the entire motorsport community knows what triggered this bitter saga between the two world champions; the 2007 Formula 1 world championship season.
A rookie Hamilton forced Alonso into an early break from the title-winning spree. And an unhappy Alonso provoked numerous controversies on and off the track, causing a rift between the two McLaren drivers. Although the sport has evolved massively over the succeeding 17 years, Alonso doesn’t seem as evolved in his relationship with Hamilton.
The Spaniard continues to fire shots at his arch-nemesis, and the latest managed to leave the fans in absolute shock. When asked about Hamilton’s move to Ferrari, Alonso had a pretty simple answer, and indeed, it may have felt like a knife to the heart for die-hard Hamilton fans.
How did Fernando Alonso react to Lewis Hamilton’s Ferrari F1 move?
This all started when Hamilton used the words “childhood dream” to describe his latest switch to Ferrari. “I feel incredibly fortunate, after achieving things with Mercedes that I could only have dreamed of as a kid, that I now have the chance to fulfill another childhood dream. Driving in Ferrari red,” he had said according to ESPN. Well, Alonso wasn’t particularly happy with the way his former teammate phrased it.
Fernando Alonso responds to Lewis Hamilton’s comments that driving for Ferrari is a “childhood dream”:
“It was not his childhood dream 12 months ago, no? Or two months ago I guess, because it was a different dream then”#F1 pic.twitter.com/U4zC1ti15Z

Hence, Alonso was quick enough to debunk Hamilton’s “childhood dream” claim. The two-time world champion said, “It was not his childhood dream 12 months ago, no? Or two months ago I guess, because it was a different dream then,” according to BBC. However, despite the saltiness, Alonso also admitted that Hamilton could be a crucial factor in fulfilling Ferrari’s biggest dream.
Alonso not ready to sign a new Aston Martin deal?
The leading Aston Martin driver is very much aware of the current situation in Formula 1 and is already exploring other options. So, could this be the end of his brief spell at Aston Martin? Not likely. Despite describing the situation as “unique,” Alonso clarified that the British outfit will remain his primary option.
“There are only three world champions on the grid, and fast world champions, because in the past maybe there were some champions who were maybe not so committed to be fast. And I am probably the only one available for 2025. So I am in a good position,” he said.
“But at the same time, when I make the decision whether I want to keep racing in the future, the first and only talk I will have in the beginning will be with Aston Martin. That will be my only priority.” Overall, the dynamic F1 drivers’ market is all set to become more dramatic, with Alonso potentially joining the fray. But, who is winning the golden ticket to Mercedes and Red Bull?
