Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton’s unexpected move to Ferrari in 2025 has left Carlos Sainz out of job. The ripple effect of Hamilton’s decision resonates across the grid, particularly impacting Sainz Jr. The Spaniard was the only non-Red Bull driver to win a race in 2023 despite the dominance created by the reigning champions. Owing to his outstanding performance, he has been reportedly receiving significant interest from various teams.
However, his father, Carlos Sainz Sr, actively seeks opportunities. He was spotted meeting Red Bull’s key figures amidst the aftermath of Hamilton’s transfer. This has naturally sparked off numerous speculations regarding the 29-year-old making a comeback with his former team. The Austrian outfit will have an opening soon as their driver, Sergio Perez is going out of contract. There have been no updates regarding any contract renewal as of today.

With a potential seat at Red Bull in 2025, Sainz Jr’s track record aligns with the team’s criteria. The Spanish driver told the media, “It’s certainly not the best feeling to start the season. But the moment I put on the helmet in Bahrain and take to the track, the only sensation I’ll feel will be the desire to go faster and faster – and also aiming for victory in the world championship” earlier this month.
The family’s connection extends to the time when Papa Sainz engaged in rally racing with support from the Bulls, strengthening potential negotiations.

He further added, “As I said before, I have to take my time to decide, see all the options that are available. And try to bring the best option for me, not only ‘25 but what’s the best option for me even for the next three or four years, where I am going to give my absolute best to put together a winning project in F1 and to see who gives me that best chance to go.”
Previously, Sainz hinted at a preference for contract security before preseason testing but acknowledges the latest developments. Despite numerous options, he is often linked with Audi, even before Hamilton sealed the deal with Prancing Horse.
