Mercedes has the worst come for them after their failed 2022 season. What once was a championship-winning team is seeing themselves start from scratch. After winning everything they lost it all to Red Bull. The Silver Arrows team was able to win 765 points in just one season with Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg as the drivers.
However, with their car for 2023, Mercedes has been seen struggling a lot. The team has failed to give Hamilton and George Russell a good car in 2024. But on the side of that sphere is Red Bull. They have the perfect car, with the perfect season and the perfect drivers. Everything seems to have fallen right into place for them.
With Red Bull’s constant updates leaving the Mercedes team trailing behind, Mercedes has decided to stop all upgrades on the W14. This news came out only recently when Mercedes confirmed that their full focus was on their next year’s car. Since the team has not seen any improvement in their performance even with great drivers, they have new plans in the making.
Toto Wolff confirms Mercedes has set their eyes on 2024
Toto Wolff, the team principal of Mercedes went on to confirm that their focus is in fact on next year. After the updates on the 2024 car were released, Wolff agreed that they are only focused on 2024. However, he also mentioned that there are some upgrades that will be brought to W14.
Toto Wolff stated according to Formularacers, “The sails are set for 2024 now,”
“We still have some updates to come with W14. But I find focus switching to next year good because there is so much we can optimize on the current car without looking too much into upgrades.”

The team principal made it clear that their new engine will be the one to top the rack. Their W15 for the 2024 season is said t be taking inspiration from the W11. The W11 was their one-of-a-kind car that brought home the most wins for Lewis Hamilton and in turn made him a World Champion.
The summer break brings in more upgrades and works for the team. However, they can only hope for it to pay off next year. As of 2024, the Silver Arrows are lagging behind although they have managed to surpass Aston Martin on the Constructors Championships list. Until then the two drivers take a break from the season.
