Social media Q&A between the multi-time world champions
In 2014, Fernando Alonso posted a tweet in which he was driving a Go Kart on a track. The caption read ‘Goodnight’ followed by hashtag #rememberWhyYouStarted, indicating that this might be Alonso’s childhood picture where he started his racing days as many of the professional Formula 1 drivers do. The picture in the tweet is from 1997.
@alo_oficial guess that’s the old Genk track. Great track to drive 👍
— Max Verstappen (@Max33Verstappen) December 8, 2014
In the tweet’s comment section, Max Verstappen replied to the tweet stating that the track in which Alonso was driving in that picture is a track known as Genk. Genk is famous and is known to be Verstappen’s home track where he started his racing days and competed in Karting.
To this, the then Ferrari driver replied that yes it indeed was the Genk track that the 17-year-old rookie was referring to at that time. From exchanging bizarre Q&As on social media to sharing respect on the track and off the track, both drivers have gained more and more respect for each other over the years.
Off-the-track bond between Fernando Alonso & Max Verstappen
Max Verstappen has stated that he is “definitely” interested in contesting in the 24-hour-long Le Mans in the future and also stated that Fernando Alonso is interested in joining him as his second driver as Le Mans requires two drivers in one team.
“Le Mans I definitely would like to do,” Verstappen stated. “I’ve been there already when my dad used to race and the atmosphere is amazing. It’s endurance, so many people, driving through the night, sunrise – I think it’s really cool,” said Verstappen.
When asked whom he would want to participate with, Max said that he would want Fernando Alonso to join him as the Spaniard has won the Le Mans with Toyota in 2018 and 2019. The Dutchman said that Alonso is also willing to participate again if he would get Max as his teammate.
