Red Faction and Saints Row creator Volition Games is permanently ceasing operations. After all of the Starfield reviews went up, at approximately 12:30 PM ET, the news was revealed on the company’s LinkedIn page.
Originally known as Parallax Software and the company behind the Descent video game series, Volition was established in 1993. Prior to developing the Summoner, Red Faction, and Saints Row franchises, it changed its name to Volition in 1996. When THQ filed for insolvency in 2017, the studio was abruptly transferred to Deep Silver after being purchased by THQ in 2000.

A relaunch of Saints Row by Volition was released in 2022 to average reviews. Embracer Group made this reorganization plan public back in June after learning that its two-billion-dollar investment arrangement with the business had fallen through. Axios discovered that Savvy Games Group, the gaming division of Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, was the other side, even though Embracer had kept it private.
Volition’s closing down was due to the new restructuring plan of parent firm Embracer Group, the company stated in its press release. Due to the failure of the deal, Embracer said that it would restructure the business, halting the production of some games, cutting spending, and selling off or closing facilities. Volition is reportedly the very first such studio that Embracer’s restructuring has publicly touched.
With a statement for the audience, Volition Games concluded the announcement by promising to assist affected employees in their search for new employment.
Fan reactions to the Volition Games shutdown
After the announcement, the fans and gamers have had lots to say. A lot of fans have been commenting on supporting and being nostalgic about the three decades of the developing studios. They praised the numerous games that the studio has developed and how it has been a part of their childhood and their early years.

Numerous other fans have criticized the company’s actions. They stated that it was the company’s own doing that led to the current situation and the shutdown. A lot of fans also said that this happened because Volition did not take into account what the players actually wanted.
The major concern is in terms of Saints Row. The fans have shown no sympathy at all and have expressed their criticism over the social media platform X. One user said that whatever has happened is not a good thing to occur but the developers brought it upon themselves. He said, “This sucks but y’all did it to yourselves”

Be it their own doing or not, this is happening. Volition Games have bid farewell to their fans and thanked them for their support. However, it is a world with cutthroat competition and it seems as if they could not sustain it.
