SUMMARY
- The Finals is the new free-to-play FPS phenomenon on Steam right now where two teams fight for prizes.
- The Finals, like a lot of games, has a battle pass system that players complete challenges for and progress to earn rewards.
The Finals has been one of the few games that managed to keep its player count high even weeks after its release. However, those who have stuck with the game have realized that progressing through the Battle Pass requires a tremendous time commitment, which is unwanted.
The Finals sent waves of excitement among the community when it was released at The Game Awards 2023 on December 7, 2023. Instantly, the free-to-play game was developed by Stockholm-based Embark Studios, making its spot among Steam’s top ten most-played games.
Naturally, the game was praised for offering satisfying action and great gunplay, however, some users had negative feelings about the modern live-service feature, the battle pass. In recent times, Battle Passes have made their way to pretty much any live-service multiplayer game. It has also turned out to be a tried and true method of rewarding players for their continuous investment in the multiplayer title.
The Finals battle pass
Like most multiplayer games these days, The Finals also came with a Battle Pass at launch. The Finals Season 1 Battle Pass began on December 7, 2023, and will run until March 12, 2024. This means players have 96 days when the Battle Pass will be active wherein players can get all the rewards it has to offer.
Although the game is free to play, players have to pay a price to take advantage of the battle pass. The Finals Season 1 Premium Battle Pass comes at a price tag of 1150 Multibucks or $9.99/€9.99/£7.99. Similarly, Embark Studios is offering a Premium Battle Pass which includes instant 20 Levels unlock and costs 2400 Multibucks or $19.99/€19.99/£15.99.
The Finals Battle Pass features a total of 96 Levels, each of which has an exclusive reward attached. Of these 96 levels, 29 levels can be earned or unlocked for free while the remaining 67 rewards can be acquired by purchasing the premium battle pass.
Fans unhappy with The Finals battle pass
Although Battle Pass is a great way for titles to give players additional rewards, it needs to strike a certain balance so that players feel like their time investment is worthwhile. Several players who are progressing through The Finals‘ Battle Pass, are of the opinion that progress moves way too slowly.
Many players feel that getting through the pass takes way too long. Several fans even claim that it takes around an hour per tier on average. Considering that the pass has 96 tiers, it adds up to close to 100 hours that the players have to commit if they wish to get everything that’s offered.
Recently, a user took to Reddit to voice their concerns regarding the same. The user made a rather controversial post telling fellow members that the game’s battle pass may not be sustainable since it took way too long to finish. The user says that out of the 96 levels, they were at level 70 after playing for 67 hours.

The user further claimed that the battle pass would become impossible to finish after a certain point in the season. This is because the progress for weekly missions does not carry over. “The worst part is that this game doesn’t even have weeklies that carry over, so it’s impossible to finish after a certain point in the season,” they wrote.
Comparing it to the battle pass of other games they said, “Battle passes do not take this long in any of the big games anymore.” They also emphasized how the battle passes of Apex Legends and Fortnite could be completed even a day before they would end.
This led to the users being divided in opinions. While some community members backed the user, agreeing with their sentiments, others had opposing views. A user commented that there were still more than two months left to complete the battle pass, thus it should not be all that impossible to complete. Another user expressed that they were happy with how the current battle pass worked and that they would not enjoy it if the battle pass was completed within a month.
A lot of users also suggested how The Finals’ battle pass system could improve by implementing what Halo: Infinite did. The battle pass of Halo: Infinite never expires and can be completed at any time. Nonetheless, irrespective of whether or not the developer makes changes to its battle pass players are likely to still continue to play The Finals for the thrill and intense action.
