The community has finally got its hands on early access of the zombie Massively multiplayer online game (MMO), The Day Before, and looks like it fails to live up to the expectations. The game has received overwhelmingly negative reviews on Steam in less than 24 hours.
Unfortunately, the road had never been smooth for The Day Before ever since the early trailers were launched. Several users were accusing the game of being a scam. The developers were also accused of copying the work of other developers, criticized for using unpaid volunteers, as well as faced a trademark dispute with a Korean calendar app.
Just days ahead of the release, developer Fntastic revealed a statement wherein it apologized for the game’s marketing and requested fans to “please don’t accuse us of scamming”. Now that the game has been released things haven’t changed much. Fans are still calling out the game as an alleged scam.
What’s wrong with The Day Before?
The reason why fans are so disappointed is that the game is very far from the MMO genre, which the game claims to be. It lacks the open-world MMO elements that Fntastic promised fans to deliver. Besides, the game also fails to live up to the developer’s lofty goals.
Additionally, the community also feels that the combat is basic, the enemy AI is way too simple, the game world is relatively empty, and moreover, the game is full of bugs. Notably, these are just a few criticisms and complaints the fans have.
Some experts also believe that is just a basic game for the price and that it “does not live up to the expectations set by Fntastic.” They mention that the game performance is bad and even the frame rate is below average.
The Day Before Steam reviews
As mentioned, The Day Before has overwhelmingly negative reviews on Steam. This is based on the feedback received from more than 12,000 reviewers who actually played the game.
A Steam user named ‘Daquavious Bruhquavion the 1st’ writes, “This is not a Open World MMO, This Is a small area extraction shooter. The devs deleted all the old videos showing the open world elements. The city is dead and there are barely any open buildings. There are no survival elements in the game because its based on being a extraction based shooter game like tarkov. Shame the game could have been the next day z. I would not recommend buying this game. Most of the city isn’t open anyways.” (sic)
Another user ‘biffa’ starts their review by writing, “This game is a scam,” followed by pointers on every area that the game disappoints. These include the slow speed of the game, frequent bugs, no open-world survival elements, lack of hook, and frequent crashes.
The user finally ends the review by saying, “Finally, this game is not an MMO, despite being advertised as such. It’s completely misleading, runs like a**, looks like a**. Just don’t buy it.”
Interestingly, the early access went live on December 7, 2023, and the developers mentioned that they plan to keep the game in early access for six to eight months before launching the final game. That looks like a decent time for the devs to rework the game.
Meanwhile, several fans are already demanding a refund and experts forecast that the refund requests are going to be high for this one.
