Starfield, Bethesda’s latest space exploration game, has been a hot topic in the gaming community. Starfield offers many options for players to explore, from legendary ships to different weapon tiers and even the possibility of romancing characters.

Legendary ships in Starfield are a significant part of the game. These ships offer unmatched speed and range, making galactic travel a breeze. These legendary ships’ superior stats and capabilities considerably enhance your voyage across the Settled Systems.

Weapon tiers, from energy-based weapons to traditional ballistic firearms, each tier offers distinct advantages and disadvantages. Higher-tier weapons often have special abilities or modifiers, such as increased critical hit chances or elemental damage. The romance options add a personal connection to the space odyssey.

Modding has been a staple in Bethesda games, and Starfield is no exception. Bethesda Games has been supporting mods officially in their previous titles and promised official mod release and support for Starfield in 2024. Games such as Fallout 4 and Skyrim have Script Extenders that have made the titles very enjoyable for gamers.

What is the Starfield Script Extender?

Script extenders are third-party software utilities that expand the scripting capabilities of a game, allowing for more complex and intricate mods. They essentially bridge the game’s native code and the modding community’s custom scripts. This works by injecting new code into the game’s runtime environment. Script extenders enable modders to implement features and functionalities not originally designed by the game developers.

Script extenders operate by latching onto the game’s native function calls, enabling fresh code to run as a precursor, successor, or direct substitute for the game’s built-in operations. This magic happens through a specialized dynamic-link library (DLL) file that seamlessly integrates into the game’s core process.

Once loaded, the DLL file can modify the game’s existing functions or add new ones, extending the game’s script engine. Certainly, to enhance your Starfield gameplay, you can install the Starfield Script Extender (SFSE). Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to get it up and running.

Step 1: Download the SFSE Files

First, head over to the official Nexus Mods page for SFSE. Make sure to download the version that matches your game’s version, which will help you avoid compatibility issues.

Step 2: Extract the Files

Extract the downloaded files using an unzip software such as 7-Zip or Winrar.

Step 3: Locate Your Starfield Game Folder

Go to the folder where Starfield is installed on your computer. This is usually found under C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Starfield if the game is installed via Steam.

Step 4: Move the SFSE Files

Get only the .dll and .exe files you extracted and drop them into your Starfield game folder. Do not put them in subfolders.

Step 5: Run the Extender

Once the files are in place, run the SFSE .exe file. This will launch Starfield with the script extender enabled, allowing you to use advanced mods that require it.

Step 6: Verify Installation

To ensure that SFSE works correctly, please launch Starfield and check for any in-game notifications confirming the extender’s activation. Some mods will also have specific indicators to show they are functioning with SFSE.

Converting Save Files for Game Pass or Microsoft Store Users

If you’re playing Starfield through Game Pass or the Microsoft Store, the SFSE doesn’t play well with your version. You can convert your save files to be compatible with the Steam version of the game, where installing SFSE is more straightforward.

Step 1: Locate Your Save Files

First, navigate to the folder where your Starfield save files are stored. For Game Pass or Microsoft Store versions, this is usually under C:\Users\[Your Username]\Saved Games\Starfield.

Step 2: Copy Save Files

Copy all the saved files you wish to convert. Create a backup so you can always put things back in place if something breaks.

Step 3: Download Conversion Tool

Download a save file conversion tool compatible with Starfield. There are several available online, but choose one that is up-to-date and has positive reviews for reliability.

Step 4: Run the Conversion Tool

Initiate the conversion tool and adhere to the on-screen guidelines. You’ll generally be prompted to identify the source folder, which houses your original save files, and the destination folder, where the converted files will be stored.

Step 5: Move Converted Save Files

Upon completion of the conversion, shift the newly created save files to the Steam version’s save file location, typically found at C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata[Your Steam ID]\Starfield\saves.

Step 6: Verify Conversion

Open the Steam edition of Starfield and load one of your converted save files to confirm the success of the conversion process.

By following this method, you can convert your Game Pass or Microsoft Store save files for use with the Steam version of Starfield. This will enable you to use the Mod.
