An entire galaxy is what you get to explore in Bethesda Studios’ latest and hottest role-playing game (RPG). Players can let loose in a galaxy that has interesting planets to discover and potential companions to meet. There are also plenty of opportunities to customize your character, both in their appearance and the gear they wear into battle.
Most of the loots in Starfield’s are hidden behind locked doors. In fact, these are some of the best loots in Starfield that are tucked away in hard-to-reach places, some of which are blocked by locked doors. But players can pick the locks to unlock the doors. Thus the skill of picking doors is crucial if you want to earn shiny new gear.

Lock picking in Starfield can be done using a Digipick, which is a unique item. It lets players try to open a locked door by simply completing a minigame.
Talking about locks, Starfield has four different types of locks namely, Novice, Advanced, Expert, and Master. The Novice lock does not require any level of skill, thus all players can easily attempt Novice locks. On the other hand, the remaining three locks require players to have skills from the Security tree.
Remember that one never knows when they would need to pick a lock in Starfield. Thus it is advised to stock up on Digipicks before one heads out on missions.
How to get Digipicks in Starfield?
Digipicks can be found lying across the galaxy in Starfield. These are looted from dead bodies, or purchased from a store. Players will also find plenty of Digipicks hiding in containers as they explore the space. However the best and guaranteed way of getting Digipicks is by visiting and purchasing it from a vendor.
Any player who has enough Digipick in their inventory can easily attempt to pick locks. To pick a lock players just need to go close to the door and wait for the prompt. Next, they will be met with a minigame, wherein the player must match and line up digital keys with the pins on the lock.

Every lock is made up of rings having a pattern of blank spaces. Similarly, on the right side of the screen, a selection of keys will be displayed to help players fill in the blanks. But the catch comes in tougher locks. Here the locks throw useless keys that match at all into the mix. Thus players will have to try multiple combinations to successfully open the door.
Also, players must keep in mind that every pin must line up to a slot, or else they will fail the minigame and waste a Digipick.
Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to use Digipicks in Starfield:
- Approach the locked door to begin the minigame.
- Choose a key from the right side of the screen.
- Rotate the key and try to line up the pins with each slot.
- Some locks will require multiple keys for each layer.
- Once you have got the correct combination, press ‘A’ to lock them in.
- Move on to the inner lock and start repeating the entire process.
- Once all the keys and pins line up correctly, the door will open.
Notably, it is not as easy as it sounds. In fact, picking locks with Digipicks is way more complicated than lockpicking activity in Bethesda’s previous titles. However, the good news is that after a few practices on Novice locks, the process should become easier.
