The January State of Play event was met with a shocking revelation by Konami. The developer shocked everyone as they revealed their much-anticipated Silent Hill: The Short Message game. To further increase players’ excitement Konami added that the game will be free to play and released the game immediately i.e. January 31.
Following the game’s trailer release, producer of the Silent Hill series Motoi Okamoto made an appearance in a video message, describing the game as the publisher’s “vision of contemporary psychological horror.”
The game’s trailer featured a new female protagonist and showed the game in a first-person perspective. The change to the first-person perspective marks a shift in viewpoint for Konami. The female character is seen exploring dark areas and looking for hints left by an enigmatic figure named Maya in the trailer.
Silent Hill: The Short Message complete story length
Konami had managed to keep a light lip about the game and has never introduced it formally. This is however not to suggest that there haven’t been any rumors circulating about the game. A lot of the rumors suggested that Silent Hill: The Short Message would be a brief P.T-style encounter.
Okamoto claims that the main themes of the game are cyberbullying and the stress of constantly being surrounded by negativity on the internet. Since the game is only available on the PlayStation 5, players can get it on the PlayStation Network.
For those fans who have been dedicatedly waiting for the game to release, the gameplay of Silent Hill: The Short Message takes about 2 hours to complete. This is however an average duration a player may take to complete the game. Player-to-player variations may be there depending on the time taken to solve the in-game puzzles and other tasks.
“Characters who are genuinely suffering and lost, where even one more minor setback can wind up pushing them even deeper into a spiral of anguish. But, in the same way, even the smallest kindness can be the thing that pulls them back from the brink. And that’s what also makes this game a message, from us to everyone living with that ever-present conflict and pressure”, was the inspiration behind the game.
Does Silent Hill Short Message tease a new Silent Hill title?
Konami dropped another bomb during the January State of Play by unveiling a new gameplay clip for the upcoming Silent Hill 2 remake. The bandaged nurses, who are famous for being the player’s most recognized enemy were featured in this trailer. The game will also come with a third-person combat as shown in the trailer.
The upcoming game will be a remake of Silent Hill 2001 and is in the survival horror genre. Similar to the 2001 game, this will focus on the character of James Sundler, a widower who goes back to Silent Hill after getting a letter from his late wife Mary, believing she is waiting for him there.
This new game might come out in late 2024, as Sony has already stated all the new titles that will make an entry to its PlayStation in 2024.
