SUMMARY
- PlayStation VR 2 is Sony's latest VR device exclusive to the PlayStation 5.
- The device, however, may lose its exclusivity as Sony unveils plans to release it for PC.
Developed by Sony Interactive Entertainment the PlayStation VR2 is a second-generation virtual reality headgear developed for the PlayStation 5 gaming console. It was launched on February 2023, at an introductory price of $550.
The new headset had a reduction in its total weight in comparison to the first-generation PS VR, and the PS VR 2 has undergone numerous design changes to improve comfort.
However, Sony faced difficulty in the sales part of the PS VR 2 headset, partly because of a general slowdown in the VR market. Additionally, the gear is only available for the PS5 consoles, which was a big factor as to why customers who are interested in VR games and applications that are only available for PCs didn’t go for it.
PlayStation VR 2 will reportedly come to PC
However, some important developments took place on February 22, 2024, which might turn things in favor of the PS VR 2. According to the latest update on the PlayStation Blog, it looks like Sony is soon planning to release its latest immersive virtual reality gear for PCs.
The PlayStation blog’s main objective was to promote recently released and forthcoming games that will be included in the already large PS VR 2 game library.
The PlayStation blog does, however, include a statement that took everyone by surprise. Sony stated that they are testing the capability of the PS VR 2 which was until now a PS5 exclusive, to allow users to “access” PC games. Players can expect to see the PC compatibility update from Sony being released in 2024, according to the same announcement.
very happy to see PS VR 2 getting PC support, opens up the hardware to more games (Half Life Alyx) and I’d imagine PlayStation VR games will eventually come to PC as wellhttps://t.co/5MAtJS5zAy

”We’re pleased to share that we are currently testing the ability for PS VR2 players to access additional games on PC to offer even more game variety in addition to the PS VR2 titles available through PS5. We hope to make this support available in 2024, so stay tuned for more updates”, Sony stated in the blog post.
The PS VR 2 gear is currently PS5 console-exclusive, but since Sony is now looking into ways to allow players to use it on PCs, it might lead to new markets for the platform.
