The follow-up to PAYDAY 2, PAYDAY 3 is a cooperative first-person shooter action game developed by Starbreeze Studios and released by Deep Silver. On September 21, 2023, PAYDAY 3 was made available for the PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
Very little was revealed when PAYDAY 3 was introduced. Starbreeze stated that PAYDAY 3 is being developed, subsequent to their May 2016 acquisition of the PAYDAY IP. They acknowledged that the Valhalla game engine was unfinished and unfit for use in ongoing game development in 2017. Subsequently, Unreal Engine 4 was revealed as the preferred engine, replacing Valhalla.
The majority of the reviews for the game were unfavorable when it originally launched, mostly as a result of the many server problems it experienced. Many of the features found in the final game were absent from the PlayStation 5 beta versions, which led to more unfavorable reviews. The game’s Steam rating was 31% at first, which rose a bit to “Mixed” 40% after a few weeks.
