The much-awaited sequel of Spider-Man, Spider-Man 2, is finally out and fans are loving it. The PS5 exclusive title developed by Insomniac Games arrived earlier on October 20, 2023. The game was released amidst much excitement from Marvel fans and a lot of positive pre-launch reviews. The game is being highly praised for its storyline and the emotional aspect as well as the impressive graphic modes.
Not to forget, like the title, the game also features two Spider-Men, and a highly acclaimed antagonist, Venom. Ever since the first look of the Venom was released, fans and critics couldn’t stop obsessing over the villain.
As fans are enjoying and having a good time beating the Venom in Spider-Man 2, the community was wondering if they could expect a spin-off in the future. And to their pleasure, it could happen.
Will Venom get his own game?
In a recent interview, the Senior Narrative Director of Insomniac Games, Jon Paquette spilled some beans about the developers plans on the possibility of Venom spin-off. Although he did not officially confirm the same, he stated that a possibility cannot be brushed off either.
He specified that Insomniac Games isn’t against making a Venom spin-off if fans want it. He shared that currently the team is not really ready to think about the next game just yet, since it’s been barely a day that Spider-Man 2 has launched. Instead, they will wait and see how fans react to the sequel first.
When he was asked about the possibility of a spin-off starring Venom, Paquette said, “So, here’s what we’re doing. We’re focused on Spider-Man 2, and what we’re gonna do is we’re gonna wait to see how the fans react.”
He added that the developers have decided that they are gonna listen to the fans and ask themselves, ‘Okay, what do the fans really want?’ After knowing the fans’ reactions and after they’ve had time to sleep and take vacations, they would internally discuss the possibility of a new game. Paquette’s statements make it clear that the team has indeed worked hard on Spider-Man 2. It also makes it clear that Insomniac certainly isn’t against spin-off games that explore side stories.
If at all the developers decide a spin-off it wouldn’t be the first time they’d do it. After the original Spider-Man was released, Insomniac released Spider-Man: Miles Morales, a spin-off, before the sequel. Miles Morales was a smaller entry that had the same gameplay with a reduced story and amount of side content.
Meanwhile, Paquette also expressed his confidence in Venom’s character and that fans will enjoy the Venom elements. He said, “I want this to be one of the best Venom stories you’ve ever experienced.” Insomniac is releasing a New Game Plus mode by the end of this year along with some other additional features. However, no full-on DLC has been confirmed yet.
On the other hand, the developer is also actively working on another Marvel project, Wolverine. Not much has been revealed about it either ever since its initial announcement in 2021. Insomniac’s development timeline is also not clear so it’s hard to guess if the developer will release Wolverine before or after another Spider-Man game. Meanwhile, Spider-Man 2 is enjoying some great reviews.
