One of the most eagerly anticipated video games of 2023 is Mortal Kombat 1. With the rebirth of the venerable franchise, it has ignited the gaming industry. The game’s nonstop battling, gory deaths, and painstakingly designed characters have revived nostalgia while raising the bar for fighting games.
Both gamers and fans are anticipating NetherRealm’s victorious return to the blood-spattered arena of the most iconic fighters. Mortal Kombat 1 is slated for release four years after the conclusion of the previous installment, on September 19, 2023.

Three editions are offered: Standard, Premium, and Kollector’s Edition. Early access is also available to people who purchase the Premium or Kollector’s Edition of the game. The early access for the players will begin on September 14, 10:00 a.m. Pacific Time.
After the beta that took place in August, many players might be wondering whether Mortal Kombat 1 will allow them to ruthlessly beat up friends on other consoles and share their progress. The players with older consoles are also eager to know if they will be able to play the game with the help of backward compatibility.
Will Mortal Kombat 1 have backward compatibility?
This fighter will debut on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PC, and, most unexpectedly, Nintendo Switch instead of last-generation consoles. Nothing indicates that it will be a part of Xbox Game Pass as of now. There is no confirmed news about this from the developers.
A hardware or software system is referred to as being “backward compatible” if it is capable of utilizing interfaces and data from older versions of the system or with additional systems. There is a chance that they might want to work on the latest consoles and make the experience better. Hence, there is no such news on whether the game will be backward compatible in the coming future.
Launch is just around the corner and we can’t wait for everyone to sink their teeth into #MK1. Regarding Kross-Play, it will not be available at launch, but know we are hard at work at implementing the feature into the game and it will be koming post launch. pic.twitter.com/M8Kvi4QkMe

Crossplay in Mortal Kombat 1 has been confirmed by the game’s creator NetherRealm, although they also said it will be available later. Crossplay between PlayStation and Xbox users was made possible in Mortal Kombat 11, so it’s not surprising that the game will do the same. However, crossplay wasn’t available to PC and Nintendo Switch users the first time around, so we’ll have to wait to see if Mortal Kombat 1 crossplay extends outside of PlayStation and Xbox.
So as of now, the current state is that the players will be able to play the game on their latest consoles only with a minute possibility of crossplay.
