SUMMARY
- Insomniac Studios' hack attack by the hands of Rhysida ended up as bad news for the company as several details about Marvel's Wolverine were leaked.
- Marvel's Wolverine is currently under development and the leak gives us an insight about what we can expect in Insomniac's new title.
A group of ransomware hackers recently hacked into the systems of Insomniac Games’ and stole a lot of private data including employee details. The group threatened the developers a week ago to sell the data. However, now they have publicly published the data online.
The group was allegedly demanding $2 million or 50 bitcoins in exchange for the data. However, when no one willingly volunteered to buy the data, the group published the data online for everyone to access. The data uploaded revealed a lot of details about Insomniac’s internal information.
The data includes Insomniac’s contracts, thus revealing their future projects including Marvel’s Wolverine, Marvel’s Venom, and Marvel’s Spider-Man 3 among others. The leaked data has also put a lot of employee details at risk including passport details.
Marvel’s Wolverine story length
The leaked data had a PowerPoint presentation (PPT) listing down details of all its upcoming and planned projects. The most information among this was regarding their upcoming title, Marvel’s Wolverine, which the studio had announced back in 2021, but had remained tight-lipped from sharing any more details.
It included the complete information regarding Wolverine including the cast, new characters, story length, combat, and more. The PPT stated that Marvel’s Wolverine will have a total of 40 missions, clocking 15 hours in total. These would include 30 missions of instances and 10 open-world missions.
Each mission will feature an average of 17 minutes of gameplay and 6 minutes of cinematics.
Marvel’s Wolverine Mechanics and Combat
The leaked PPT lists an overview of four core mechanics in the upcoming Marvel’s Wolverine game. These five are combat, stealth, transversal, senses, and progression. The combat will have a set of eight abilities in total as follows:
Light/Heavy Combo System
- Light attacks will be fast but will do low damage
- Heavy attacks will be slow but will do high damage.
Power Attacks
- Holding the Light Attack button will air launch enemies.
- Holding and charging the Heavy attack button damage.
Critical Strikes
- Enemies having Low Health or in Special States can be one-hit killed.
Dodge/Block/Parry/Limbing
- Parry for left or right limbing, kills low-level enemies
- High tier enemies require additional strategies.
Special Abilities (Two Slots)

Besides, there will also be a combat health system wherein a regenerating health system will promote aggression. The protagonist, Logan, who the players play will generate a small amount of passive health. Similarly, when Logan is damaged, health loss is recoverable for a short time window. It will be called “Ghost Health”. During the ghost health period, the more attacks the player lands, the faster it recovers.
