SUMMARY
- Helldivers 2 is a massive hit that is taking the world by storm on PC and PS5.
- Despite its massive success, the game is plagues by server issues resulting in disconnections.
Arrowhead Game Studios’ long-awaited game Helldivers 2 has finally launched and players are having a great time playing the third-person shooter. However, a number of PC users reported some issues in the game hindering their gaming experience.
The latest title was released on February 8, 2024, on PlayStation 5 and PC. Although the game has received great reviews, and even made its way among the bestsellers on Steam, the early success came with its own set of challenges and bugs.
When around one million players purchased the game within just three days of release, the game’s servers were pushed to their limits. This led to a number of server-related issues in the game. Several players were even unable to log in to the game as a result.
Helldivers 2 issues before the update
The Arrowhead CEO Johan Pilestedt, took to X, to thank fans for their patience. The CEO also confirmed that the developers are not yet done deploying critical fixes for the game. The CEO’s tweet on February 11 stated that the Helldicers 2 team needed to get “some sleep” however, they will be back at the game “in a few hours.”

As per the game’s Steam commit history, the work on the server later resumed on the following day, at around 5 AM ET. Talking about the problems that persisted in the game, the CEO identified two critical issues, namely, login issues as well as problems with rewards, which were not being tracked correctly within sessions.
The login issues have impacted the game since its launch on February 8. It was mainly due to the massive load on the game servers. Johan revealed that the team had already managed to increase the game’s Azure server request limit by double to 20,000 interactions per minute.
However, that too proved inadequate since the concurrent player count on the game skyrocketed from 250,000 to 360,000 players.
Helldivers 2 faces issues even after the server update
Players found that the rewards were not being tracked properly and similarly, there were login issues. Talking of the rewards issue, the Helldivers 2 creative director, after the latest patch described the problem as “mitigated but not resolved.”
The latest patch was released recently on February 11, 2024, at around 6 PM ET. Arrowhead CEO said that rebooting the game can temporarily resolve the rewards issue.
Notably, Helldivers 2 received an important update just a day after the game went live. This was followed up by another major server patch on February 11. However, unfortunately, even after the server update some issues continue to hinder the game.
We have noticed some servers issues that we need to resolve soon. The team at @ArrowheadGS are true champs in their desire to make #Helldivers2 as good to play as possible for you guys.

The CEO acknowledged these existing issues too saying, “We have noticed some servers issues that we need to resolve soon. The team at @ArrowheadGS are true champs in their desire to make #Helldivers2 as good to play as possible for you guys.”
The entire server issues are typical and common for most highly successful online games from indie developers. The most recent example is Pocketpair’s Palworld, which witnessed a similar fate. They ultimately decided to may their Palworld servers for the moment till they find a more permanent solution to its troubles.
