SUMMARY
- Helldivers 2 emerges as a major hit in 2024 due to its cooperative gameplay and engaging mechanics.
- Despite its success, the game faces initial server capacity issues.
Helldivers 2 is one of the biggest hits of 2024, right beside Palworld. The third-person co-op shooter made waves because of its purely cooperative and more importantly, fun gameplay. The game pits squads of players against enemies that have taken over the planet and the players have to liberate the planet to take it back collectively.
The unique aspect of the game comes from the fact that the progress of a planet is synced across all platforms, basically making all the players worldwide come together to ‘Fight for Democracy’. Helldivers 2 pits players against two kinds of enemies, Bugs and Robots.
The bugs are referred to as The Terminids while the robots are called The Automatons. Every kind of enemy requires strategy and planning to take it down, with the automatons requiring armor-piercing rounds.
Being from a small studio, it seems the developers did not expect the game to blow up as it did, and the players suffered through several server cap issues, that prevented them from logging in, forcing many players to stay logged in to not lose their slot. However, players can now enjoy the game without many issues as the developers have promised another server cap increase on top of the one they already increased.
Helldivers 2 increases the server cap to 800,000 concurrent players
Arrowhead Studios has been hard at work to solve as many issues and bugs as they can to accommodate every player in the game. The developers primarily focused on fixing their server cap before they started working on the bugs and glitches in the game.
Players were complaining about high login times, with some players even waiting hours to get into the game, which is mostly the reason behind the negative reviews on Steam and other platforms. It is understood that Arrowhead Studios is a studio of around 100 developers, and still managed to solve most of the issues faced by the game. The developer has reportedly increased the cap to accommodate 800,000 concurrent players.
We expect the @helldivers2 servers to hit the 800,000 CCU max capacity in 3-4 hours. There might be light queues to get in at peak.
Also, how crazy is this message from a studio of ~100 devs? 🤟

With the cap increased to 800,000, the developers did state that there might be some light queues during peak hours. The light queueing can be explained by the fact that the servers are regional, with varying amounts of players in each region. The game continues to dominate the Steam charts, beating out several titles in concurrent players including GTA 5.
Helldivers 2 bugs and glitches
Helldivers 2, while mostly out of the water, is still knee-deep in bugs and glitches. Many PS5 players are reportedly facing the 10003001 error while logging in. Many players have reported disconnections during play.
Is Helldivers 2 really a buggy mess?

One of the biggest bugs in the game was the rewards either being delayed or not being attributed to the player at all, causing them to lose everything they worked for. While the developers worked on these bugs, they introduced a double-reward weekend to compensate.
Another persisting issue was the Japanese voice-over being missing from the game’s intro cutscene. While there are many bugs that still plague the game, Arrowhead Studios is hard at work to fix them. Previously, the studio also increased the concurrent cap to 700,000 before increasing it to an additional 100,000.
