Fortnite’s long-forgotten game mode, Save the World, has achieved an all-time active player peak. When Fortnite Battle Royale was released back in the day, it took the world by storm. Almost everyone in the gaming community was aware of it, and in no time, it gained worldwide popularity.
It was indeed an unexpected outcome for Epic Games when it was first released. In fact, the Battle Royale mode was supposed to be just an addition to Fortnite, and Save the World was supposed to be the main game mode. However, it failed to attract gamers as expected.
Ironically, it didn’t have that many active players either when compared to the Battle Royale. Eventually, Epic Games shifted its focus to Fortnite Battle Royale. Thus making the case weaker for the Save the World mode. That being said, the mode did gather a few fans, who quickly felt jilted by Epic, leading to disappointment that the devs put almost no effort into improving the game.
Fortnite Save the World mode breaks records
Fortnite’s former Save the World mode peaked in users on November 12, 2023. It recorded over 50,000 active players at the same time. This is probably because of the number of players who returned to Fortnite for Season OG.
Notably, Fortnite OG’s Battle Royale game mode also registered Fortnite’s ‘biggest day ever’ in terms of player count record last week. Undoubtedly, this new season in Fortnite has caught the attention and interest of thousands of users, both active and returning players.
After the devs announced that they were bringing the iconic OG Fortnite map back to the game, many users who have moved away from the game expressed their excitement to return to play the map.

It looks like although the Battle Royale mode was enjoyed by many, several fans also decided to give the lost Save the World mode another try. The record has also made fans wonder if Epic Games will finally invest in it once again.
The classic player vs environment (PvE) game mode fans were glad to see this rise in the number of players, thus instilling a hope that maybe Epic Games could once again bring the Save the World mode. If the devs do it it will also prove that Fortnite isn’t just the Battle Royale and Creative modes game.
Players interested in testing this game mode would actually have to pay for it. Although the Save the World mode was supposed to go free once Fortnite left early access, however, the plan was scrapped, and only those players who purchase the mode will be able to play it. Currently, it can be found on the Epic Games Store.
