SUMMARY
- Elden Ring was FromSoft's latest in high-octane high-difficulty adventure games.
- However, even Elden Ring fell to the speed of speedrunners.
The classic soulslike genre games by FromSoftware are renowned among the players for being very challenging, with grueling boss battles and unforgiving gameplay which makes it difficult for the players to advance through each action role-playing journey.
Players have, however, found some interesting ways to complete the game, one being speedrunning. This is a popular method among soulslike fans to find greater challenges in the game. This has proved to be an exciting way in the community to see who can finish the game faster.
In one instance, Distortion2 who is a streamer on Twitch, once finished an Elden Ring speedrun in just 37 minutes. Therefore this has now become a common phenomenon among FromSoftware fans.
Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree to have a new progression system
Things will however change in the FromSoftware titles with the coming of the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC. This is because the developers will be introducing an updated progression system, where all will have to play the game at a reasonable pace. Therefore, this is a step that the game aims to implement from other FromSoftware titles.
The updated progression system was first announced by Miyazaki in an exclusive interview with Famitsu. He then goes on to briefly explain the mechanics for the fans.
“You will best understand it if you imagine something akin to ‘Attack Power’ in Sekiro: Shadows DieTwice,” he stated. He again added, “It’s something like an Attack Power separate from existing levels that is only effective within the DLC area”.
Miyasaki: “In Shadow of the Erdtree, there will be a progression system exclusive to the expansion, that works like Attack Power in Sekiro.”
Fanbase “What does he mean by this cryptic, esoteric message.”
Fromsoftware fans’ inability to read constantly surprises me.

In contrast to the game’s customary approach of leveling up and weapon smithing, the new system appears to level the playing field between the player’s character and their adversaries. Players will definitely find this helpful when they go on to fight the updated version of the worst boss in the DLC, as they can prepare themselves well.
It therefore looks like the new system was introduced to preserve the intended original gameplay experience for experienced players while promoting exploration of the recently added Land of Shadow region to the DLC.
Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree has a new boss
After waiting for over more than a year after the DLC was first announced, fans recently got to see the trailer of the game.
The first trailer for Shadow of the Erdtree DLC was a surprise for many fans as they got introduced to Messmer the Impaler. Fans now feel that Messmer the Impaler will be the main enemy rather than the notorious Miquella from the original Elden Ring game.
Based on the appearance, it is probable that these guesses are right and Messmer the Impaler will be the new final boss in the DLC. Players will, therefore have to wait and see to find out more about the boss when the game releases.
