SUMMARY
- Destiny 2 has a lot on its plate now that Final Shape has been delayed.
- Destiny 2's update 7.3.4 aims to bring back players with some major QOL changes.
Online first-person shooter Destiny 2 by Bungie combines both single and multiplayer gameplay. Since making its debut in 2017, the shooter has developed a devoted fan base. As Guardians of the last safe city on Earth, players take on the responsibility of defending humanity against various alien races and the Darkness’s impending menace.
But Destiny 2 has had a difficult 2023, beginning with a problematic launch of the Lightfall expansion and continuing with Bungie layoffs and a June 2024 release date for The Final Shape, which has left players questioning the company’s integrity.
If Bungie wants to keep developing Destiny 2 when The Final Shape is finished, it must win back players. While this is a difficult undertaking, there are a number of adjustments that players have suggested the studio explore.
Destiny 2’s update 7.3.4 patch notes
Since Destiny 2’s 2017 release, players have been asking for two major modifications, which Bungie finally revealed in their first TWID blog entry of the year on January 19.
Over the years, the Glimmer cap in Destiny 2 was identified as one of the main problems with the game. However, as time went on, these problems became increasingly apparent, so Bungie’s decision to fix them at last was a major victory for the community.
With the release of update 7.3.4 on January 30, the Glimmer cap in Destiny 2 will be doubled. Upgrading the tightly held 250,000 Glimmer cap to 500,000 felt necessary given the removal of Legendary Shards and the increasing reliance on Glimmer as a medium of exchange.
For those who are more interested in fashion, there’s even more to be excited about. The game will get an update before The Final Shape which will allow players to finally re-customize their Guardians, which is a first in the ten-year history of Destiny 2. Bungie stated that by simply starting the game, players will be able to fully alter their characters’ appearances at any moment and for free.
“You will be able to modify the appearance of your Guardians anytime, without cost or limit to the number of changes,” the blog states. “To do so, you’ll only need to launch Destiny 2 and you’ll notice a new option when you hover over a character at the character selection screen.”
The inability for players to alter their Guardian’s origin will be the only true restriction. It follows that Human Guardians are unable to become Exo or Awoken.
Character customization is only expected to arrive prior to The Final Shape’s June 4 launch, even though the update for the Glimmer cap has a clear release date of January 30.
