The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) series by EA Sports has been a staple in the sports gaming community for years. Its previous installment, UFC 4, garnered positive reviews for its realistic fighting mechanics and immersive career mode. However, the franchise is about to leap forward with its upcoming release, UFC 5.
The game is scheduled to launch on October 27 for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S; its features are already generating interest. One of the most anticipated aspects is introducing an online career mode unseen in previous installments.
One significant change in UFC 5 is its shift from a T for Teen rating to M for Mature. This change allows for “more realistic aspects of damage” and greater detail in rendering damage, including blood pooling on the canvas.
The game’s roster will not only feature current UFC fighters. It will also include legendary fighters like Mike Tyson, Muhammad Ali, and Fedor Emelianenko as part of the pre-order bonus. And they will mostly be available as DLC to players of other editions.
Publisher EA Sports has also announced a closed beta for UFC 5, providing a platform for users to offer feedback. Selected participants will receive a code to access the beta, primarily focusing on online matches. The beta aims to collect data necessary for adjustments before the game’s official release.
UFC 5 to introduce a new online career mode
According to Insider Gaming, UFC 5 will feature its first-ever online career mode. It will allow players to create fighters who can compete in one of four divisions. As players rise through the ranks, they will have the opportunity to win championships. This mode will operate alongside the traditional offline career mode, ensuring players have multiple gameplay avenues.
Moreover, the Online Career Mode will reportedly allow players to build their fighters from the ground up. It will take them through the UFC ranks while competing against other players online. EA is said to have refined the online gaming experience and matchmaking for this. This online career mode will also hinge on players’ choices, with the gamers having the opportunity to pursue their careers however they want.

Players will also earn “evolution points” as they compete online, which can be used to upgrade their created fighters. This progression system is an enhanced version of the ranked championships from previous UFC games. Skill-based matchmaking will ensure that fights are evenly matched. It will make the matches fair and increase competitiveness.
UFC 5 is also undergoing some significant changes in development compared to the previous titles. UFC 5 will switch from the Ignite Engine to the Frostbite engine, enhancing the game’s visuals and bumping the frame rate from 30 to 60 FPS. The launch date is still a month away, to be released at the end of October. Players who do not get access to the closed beta would have to wait patiently.
