The gaming world has had an emotional outbreak after EA made a shocking announcement to the community. EA is going to shut down the online servers for 12 games by the end of this year. While it was expected to a certain extent, it has still caused a flurry of shocks.
While it is a necessary aspect of any gaming company’s progress, many who still frequent the older titles have felt a great sense of loss. EA has justified its decision by mentioning that this is necessary in order to concentrate on newer and current gaming projects, so as to offer the gamers more.
EA argues that the dwindling number of players for these older games no longer justifies the cost of server maintenance. Yet, the company assures its audience that it will focus on developing and enhancing newer titles.
The decision certainly impacts groups of gamers who occasionally take a nostalgic trip to these older titles. As such, with the shutting down of these games, many have become curious as to what these games will be and when will their servers be closed.

It’s not new for a company to shut down games due to its lesser audience. EA has specified that such an action is necessary for more growth in their current games that have a higher number of players. A silver lining is that some of the games have backward compatibility so they might be able to play these games but without the online modes.
To sum it up, the shutdown of these servers has proven to be a hard but required decision for not only the company but also the gamers. But nonetheless, this loss will affect many, and many will miss these games after they’re gone.
