SUMMARY
- Dwight Howard believes the MVP needs rightfully to be given to the player who has the most value on a team.
- The 2020 NBA Champion claims LeBron James deserved way more MVP wins.
Even though it’s been two years since we last saw Dwight Howard play in the NBA, the veteran star has been actively involving himself in various activities around the league. Howard currently plays for Mets de Guaynabo in Puerto Rico and is trying to get himself back into the NBA. But every now and then, the ex-NBA star shares his views on things happening around the league. His latest take was on the true meaning of the MVP award.
Howard commented on X saying, “First off I think it’s still a lack of clarity of what ‘MVP’ means and the way it’s voted on. Is it the best player? Or the player who has the most value to his teams success? It still intrigues me that Kobe & even Shaq only have 1 MVP. Also it’s crazy that Bron doesn’t have more MVPs than anyone else… he’s probably the most snubbed. Lastly, Dwade, Carmelo, and the man on the NBA logo never winning it is crazy.”

Lately, several experts have been arguing over whom the title rightfully belongs to. Some believe that it should be given to the player with the numbers during the regular season. While others think it should go to the best player of the best team in the league. Howard’s comments certainly bring a new perspective to the debate while also showering his former teammate, LeBron James with some respect.

Fans somehow weighed in on what they thought about Nikola Jokic winning his third MVP in four years. One X user said, “Luka did the most with an injury-plagued roster this yr!” Another user added, “Shai easily should’ve been MVP this yr.” All three finalists in this year’s MVP race had great importance to their team. Luka Doncic averaged the best numbers, and Jokic had great numbers contributing to every aspect of the game. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander brought a Play-In Tournament team to the top seed in the Western Conference.
Dwight Howard nearly won an MVP in 2011
While Dwight Howard mentioned a few candidates who were snubbed multiple times before, the former Los Angeles Lakers star failed to add his name to the list. Back in 2011, we witnessed history take place when Derrick Rose became the youngest MVP ever. However, Howard finished second in votes while LeBron James trailed right behind him.
Howard had a fairly impressive season as well averaging 22.9 points, 14.1 rebounds, 1.4 steals, and 1.4 blocks per game. He won his third consecutive DPOY title. Howard led the league with a 94.1 defensive rating that season. He also helped the Orlando Magic achieve a 52-30 record securing the fourth spot in the Eastern Conference. Many believe Howard had a legitimate chance of winning the MVP. However, James might’ve truly been snubbed that season.
