After hearing about the latest Dejounte Murray trade, most NBA fans are convinced that the Atlanta Hawks got the shorter end of the stick. To those who might not be aware, the Hawks finally made the decision to follow through on a trade that would part ways with Murray.
Although the Hawks added him to their roster with hopes that he could help them get to the next level, they appear to have backtracked on that train of thought. After all, the team simply has not seen a great deal of success in recent times.
Since Dejounte was playing quite well this season, many assumed that teams would have to give up a lot in order to get him from the Hawks. However, the New Orleans Pelicans have managed to acquire him for a deal that stunned Hawks fans. With that being said, let us take a closer look and find out more.
Many fans believe the Atlanta Hawks made a bad trade to get rid of Dejounte Murray
The New Orleans Pelicans were able to get Dejounte Murray from the Atlanta Hawks in return for Larry Nance Jr., Dyson Daniels, and 2 future first-round draft picks. Given the level that Murray is at presently, this was undoubtedly an easy decision for the Pelicans to make.

On the other hand, it shows that Atlanta was willing to give up Dejounte without putting much effort into getting back enough value. This may even indicate that the Hawks were desperate to move on from Murray. That was an explanation that some fans formed. The majority simply assumed that the Hawks got tricked into accepting a smaller offer, “Hawks legit didn’t even try.”

While it is easy to claim that the Hawks could have gotten a better deal for Dejounte Murray, there is simply no way of knowing if other offers were even on the table. Although fans think the Hawks did not get the better end of this deal, the Pelicans certainly look like a different team with Dejounte on their roster.
Will adding Dejounte Murray to the roster help the New Orleans Pelicans?
It is fair to say that the Pelicans will now be a better team with Murray on their roster especially since they did not have to give up any main members of their core such as Bradon Ingram or Zion Williamson. Their backcourt will now likely play Murray and CJ McCollum as a part of their starting lineup.
