SUMMARY
- The Warriors could fix up their roster by acquiring DeMarcus Cousins from the buyout market.
- Cousins last played in the NBA during the 2021-22 season after which he competed in Puerto Rico and Taiwan.
Now that the February trade deadline has passed, teams will now put their heads into the buyout market. The Golden State Warriors were heavily discussed in various trade scenarios. However, nothing ever conspired even at the end of the deadline. GSW claimed that they wanted to piece another frontcourt player with Stephen Curry, who could also help score efficiently.
There was one name that was tied up in trade rumors involving the Warriors, Lauri Markkanen. The Utah Jazz forward has been their top player over the last two years averaging career numbers in the mix. He would’ve been a great addition to the Warriors’ roster and it could yielded great results for a potential post-season run. But with that idea out of the window, another player is now being linked to the Warriors.

DeMarcus Cousins has been listed in the buyout market for the Warriors. Cousins could be a perfect fit for the Warriors especially since he has a lot of experience in being a team’s first option. The veteran center has proven his versatility multiple times in the past averaging 33.1% from deep along with 1.3 steals and 1.1 blocks per game throughout his career.
DeMarcus Cousins last played for the Warriors during the 2018-19 season
DeMarcus Cousins has previously played for the Warriors. This was during Dubs Nation’s 2018-19 campaign, the same season they made their last NBA Finals during the 2010s. Cousins dealt with injuries for the first half of the season but went on to appear for 30 games during the second half. He averaged 16.3 points, 8.2 rebounds, and 3.6 assists along with 1.3 steals and 1.5 blocks per game.
During that season, he also made eight playoff game appearances averaging 7.6 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 2.4 assists per game. Unfortunately, the Warriors were plagued with other injured players. And they went on to lose their title to the Toronto Raptors.
Since then, Cousins played for the Houston Rockets, LA Clippers, Milwaukee Bucks, and Denver Nuggets all in the span of two seasons. He last played in the NBA during the 2021-22 season. Cousins traveled overseas to play for the Mets de Guaynabo and Taiwan Beer Leopards.
DeMarcus Cousins defended Draymond Green following the 4x Champion’s faceoff against the Suns
It seems as if Boogie Cousins still has love for his former Warriors teammates. Unfortunately, Draymond Green has been going through a lot this season. The 4x NBA Champion received multiple suspensions due to his violent behavior against several players including Ruby Gobert and Jusuf Nurkic. Green was slapped with an indefinite suspension which lasted for 12 games.
He was reinstated in January after which the Warriors met the Phoenix Suns on February 10, 2024, for the first time since the Green-Nurkic incident. After that matchup, Nurkic said, “It’s sad. He didn’t learn anything. It’s just a matter of time. He’s going to knock somebody else again. He doesn’t deserve a chance.”
DeMarcus Cousins defended Green against Nurkic’s comments saying, “One, you can’t, on one hand, want to be a part of the nonsense and part of the circus. And then once you kind of get outplayed, then you run to the principal’s office. That’s wack.” Green would probably be elated knowing that Cousins has a chance of returning as well.
