- The UFC President's comments on Power Slap has received backlash in the past especially after he claimed it was more famous than any other sport in the world.
Dana White is determined to get the Power Slap League above all sports organizations in the world. The 54-year-old promoter has found great success with the UFC since acquiring it along with his associates in 2001. Power Slap was recently added to the roster of events that take place before any major event in the UFC.
Lately, Power Slap has been gaining more followers daily and it is slowly growing into a staple event that leads up to a UFC main event. White is aware of the rapid growth in its audience as well claiming that its popularity will soon skyrocket. The UFC general recently signed a former fighter Paige VanZant. He plans on crossing over into celebrity fights which will duly impact the growth of the league as well.
Dana White challenges the media that Power Slap will surpass the UFC
Following the most recent Power Slap event, White claimed that the league will eventually become the biggest sports event ever, bigger than the UFC itself. He said, “I said it… go back, some of you were there and heard me in the early days. I said this will be the biggest sport in the world. This will be bigger than the UFC… Now you can remember I said that.”

His comments on the league were more or less a challenge to the media as well since some believe their audience will eventually frizzle out of interest. There are a few concerns around Power Slap’s safety as repeated trauma to the head could lead to severe consequences like brain damage. This is something that’s concerned many experts, media personalities, and fans as well. Joe Rogan himself tried to convince VanZant against joining Power Slap using this as a reason.
The UFC President faced great backlash following his previous take on Power Slap
A few weeks ago, Dana White’s comments on Power Slap got him into trouble with his fans. During an appearance on Andrew Schulz’s podcast, the UFC President claimed that Power Slap has more followers than any other professional sports league or organization in the world.
“[Power Slap] has more followers than every professional sport, every professional sports team, we have more followers than them. Every professional sports team, we have more followers than them in 15 months,” he said.
White was eventually trolled online while fans uncovered that Real Madrid’s 162 million following makes Power Slap’s numbers look like rookie statistics. White also addressed the comments saying he meant to compare Power Slap’s viewership with other sports and not their following on social media.
