Brandon John Staley, more popularly known as Brandon Staley, is the head coach for the National Football League (NFL) team, the Los Angeles Chargers. He played college football for the Dayton Flyers football team (University of Dayton). Staley was a quarterback during his playing days.
Staley started out his coaching career with extremely humble beginnings. At first, he was a coach with the college football teams and then got an opportunity in the NFL. He started as a graduate assistant in 2006 for the Northern Illinois Huskies football team and was then involved with the St. Thomas Tommies football team and the Hutchinson Community College as well.
Brandon Staley got his first job in the NFL with the Chicago Bears in 2017. He was given the role of outside linebacker coach. From there on, Staley started to showcase his talent in front of the rest of the league. He went to work with the Denver Broncos and the Los Angeles Rams.
Brandon Staley has not made any mark with the Chargers even after bagging a big contract
While working with the Los Angeles Rams as a defensive coordinator in 2020 after replacing Wade Phillips, Stanley caught the eye of many with his defensive tactics. The Los Angeles Rams conceded the least passing yards, and they were ranked first in defensive positioning.
Brandon Staley replaced Anthony Lynn as the head coach of the Los Angeles Chargers on January 17, 2021. He signed a four-year contract worth $16 million with the Chargers at that time, with an average annual salary of $4 million. Staley has a net worth of $5 million as of 2023.

He is one of the most well-paid head coaches in the NFL currently, but if you compare him with Bill Belichick, who gets $20 million annually, it’s probably a bit less! While we talked about the details of Brandon Staley’s contract with the Los Angeles Chargers, we should also take a look at how much the Chargers could be paying, if they fire him early. Recently, the Las Vegas Raiders fired head coach Josh McDaniels but were required to pay the remaining $85 million in his guaranteed contract.
If we consider that Staley’s contract is also guaranteed, the Chargers might have to pay around $8 million. NFL insider Jordan Schultz has said it’s almost certain that Stanley will be fired. “Brandon Staley, barring a miracle down the stretch, is out with the Los Angeles Chargers. And the reason is that they have not had sustained regular-season success. They’ve only been to one playoff game in three-plus years,” he said.
Brandon Staley’s head coach record is not that impressive, with 23 wins and 22 defeats. The Chargers have reached the playoffs just once under him after finishing second in the AFC West in 2022. They are 4-7 in the 2023–24 season and are fourth in the AFC West.
