Tyson Fury is arguably one of the best heavyweights and boxers overall in the sport. Widely considered the line heavyweight champion of the world, Fury is one of the most accomplished boxers ever. Whilst he has enjoyed an exemplary career inside the ring, his life outside has been plagued with troubles.
Following a positive drug test in 2015, Tyson was suspended for a considerable amount of time. During his suspension, ‘The Gypsy King‘ struggled with his mental health and also put on a lot of weight. Eventually, Fury made a sensational comeback three years later to reclaim his throne.
Following his return to the sport, Tyson secured monumental victories over the likes of Deontay Wilder, Dillian Whyte, and Derek Chisora. However, despite the wind in his sails, the past quickly caught up with Fury. Tyson was reportedly linked to former MTK Global promoter Daniel Kinahan. Notably, Kinahan happens to be an accused mobster and drug trafficker from Ireland.
Thus, in 2022, the United States government barred the heavyweight boxer and anyone with ties to Kinahan from entering the country. As a result, Tyson’s half-brother, Tommy Fury, was also not allowed to enter the States for his fight against Jake Paul. Eventually, the fight had to be rescheduled and moved to Saudi Arabia instead.
Bob Arum reveals that Tyson Fury is in fact allowed to enter the US
Thus, both the brothers and even their father, John Fury, will not be stepping on US soil any time soon. Previously, John was also barred from entering the US after getting into a feud. Big ‘Gypsy’ got into an altercation with former friend Oathie Sykes in 2010. Unfortunately, the scuffle escalated very quickly, during which John gouged out Sykes’ eye.
According to reports, the feud was due to a 12-year-long squabble regarding a bottle of beer. As it so happened, the two men bumped into each other, and all hell broke loose. Shortly thereafter, John was sentenced to 11 years in prison and never set foot in the country again after his release. Due to what is likely a lifetime ban from entering the country, John was also absent from Tyson’s corner during the Deontay Wilder fight in 2018.
Fortunately for Tyson, there is a chance that he may still be able to fight in the US, according to promoter Bob Arum. Speaking to ProBox TV, Arum said, “The idea that he hasn’t had permission to fight here is baloney. But he has to go to the US embassy and be interviewed, and then they’ll give him his visa”. Further, he added, “But he (Tyson) has been reluctant to have that interview. We have the person he has to see – there’s no reason he’ll be kept out of this country”.
Moreover, Arum has echoed the same to numerous media outlets, including FIGHT HUB TV. According to his statement, Fury will likely be required to answer questions regarding Kinahan, to obtain his visa. Currently, there is no new update on the matter either.
