After spending nearly a year on the sidelines, WBC boxing champion Tyson Fury (33-0-1, 24 KOs) is set to make his comeback in the ring this weekend. Throughout most of 2023, Fury was actively pursuing a bout against a prominent heavyweight contender. Unfortunately, a variety of factors led to the breakdown of these potential matchups. ‘The Gypsy King‘ is now set to clash with the former UFC heavyweight champion, Francis Ngannou, on October 28.
Despite facing considerable scrutiny from boxing traditionalists, Fury’s fight with Ngannou (17-3 in MMA) is a much-awaited match-up for the fans. The big money fight is going to happen in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. After this one, he will move forward to face Oleksandr Usyk, the unified heavyweight champion with an impressive record of 21 victories and 14 knockouts, in a quest for the undisputed heavyweight title. This one, too, is set to take place in Saudi Arabia.
Speaking to iFL TV about fighting in Saudi Arabia, Tyson Fury recently expressed a lot of disappointment towards the British government. Fury feels he has done so much for the country over the years but has not received a single ‘thank-you’ message from the officials. However, the story is totally different in Saudi Arabia, as the officials there take good care of Fury, and he often sits with high officials to enjoy tea with them.
“I have nothing to do with fans. I am all about governments. What has the government ever done for the Gypsy King? Absolutely nothing!” said Tyson Fury. “I’ve raised in London the last two fights, probably hundreds and hundreds of millions”, he added.
The WBC champion also expressed that his fights that are hosted in London boost the UK’s economy by filling up the stadiums, pubs, bars, and restaurants.
Where is Tyson Fury vs. Francis Ngannou happening?
Tyson Fury will be facing former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou in a 10-round boxing main event. This highly anticipated fight card, scheduled for 2 p.m. Eastern Time on October 28, will be featured at the Riyadh Arena in Saudi Arabia. It’s safe to say that this is one of the most talked-about crossover fights since the historic match between boxing legend Floyd Mayweather and former UFC double champ Conor McGregor in August 2017.
The Cameroonian MMA fighter has been widely recognized as one of the hardest-hitting punchers to ever step into the Octagon. When he was in the UFC, he was one of the most feared fighters in the world. On the other hand, Tyson Fury is generally acknowledged as the greatest heavyweight boxer of our time, although a relatively limited number of challenging opponents have been the only criticism he has faced.
Moreover, this one is a fight for the ages, as it will give the world ‘the Baddest Man on the Planet’. Are you also excited about it? Tell us in the comments!
