Owned by YouTube stars Logan Paul and KSI, PRIME Energy Drink has made a name for itself in the sports drink industry. As PRIME has two massive social media stars associated with it, marketing it to the masses was not a very difficult job. Moreover, it is now the official sports drink for the UFC and is also associated with popular soccer teams like Arsenal, FC Barcelona, and Bayern Munich.
Logan Paul claims PRIME to be the new-age sports drink that is better than competitors like Gatorade, which has been the market leader for quite some time. The drink is supposed to replenish your body with electrolytes after a workout or a sports activity. It became popular among the youth as it contained much fewer calories and sugar than the other hydration drinks on the market.

However, several health and nutrition experts have come forward to reveal that it is not as good as the hype surrounding it. Recently, BJJ purple belt and personal trainer James Smith released a video criticizing the PRIME drink where he said, “They Don’t even Understand Hydration”.
Smith used the argument that during a workout or any other intense physical activity, a human body loses water and other minerals, which is why most sports drinks have water and sodium as their major components.
However, PRIME does not have much sodium in it, as a serving has just 5 milligrams of it. To get some perspective, another energy drink, Powerade, has 168 milligrams of sodium. Moreover, one of PRIME’s USPs has been the use of negligible sugar to prepare it.
So, it naturally becomes a good option for someone on a calorie-restrictive diet. So, what makes PRIME ‘overly sweet’ according to some people? The drink has artificial sweeteners, one of which is sucrose, which is 600 times sweeter than sugar.
Logan Paul-owned PRIME doesn’t make sense to Leon Edwards’ dietician
Popular performance nutritionist and UFC champion Leon Edwards’ dietician, Jordan Sullivan, is also not impressed by Logan Paul’s PRIME and the fact that it is being marketed as a hydration drink does not make sense to him. Sullivan too pointed out that for rapid rehydration, the body largely needs water, sodium, and glucose, and PRIME is not exactly the drink you would go for if you are looking for all those things.

Moreover, PRIME is high in potassium, which is an important nutrient for the body, but it is not as important as sodium is when it comes to fast rehydration. The nutrition expert justified himself by pointing out that a doctor does not suggest you to eat a banana (also high in potassium) when you are dehydrated.
He further suggested that Logan Paul is not doing any good by comparing PRIME with other hydration drinks, as those are better when it comes to their properties as hydrating and sports drinks.
Lastly, PRIME is much more expensive than competitors like Gatorade and Powerade. However, the aggressive marketing and the hype around it have made it a high-selling product in a short span of time. What do you make of the energy drink PRIME? Tell us in the comments!
