WBC Heavyweight champion Tyson Fury is not looking to retire anytime soon although his wife, Paris Fury, hopes for the contrary. Before Fury’s highly anticipated bout against former UFC Heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou, Paris was asked about Tyson’s future plans. She hoped for him to be done after the fight against Oleksandr Usyk but she was in for an unwanted surprise.
During a pre-match interview, Paris said, “I’m hoping after Usyk, that’s the end of the fight. I’m hoping that’s the end of it. Probably rain on everyone’s parade.”
The interviewer, Kugan Cassius, asked Paris, “You want him to retire after the two Usyk fights?”
Paris was shocked to know that there could be two matches against Usyk. According to ESPN’s sources, there will be a rematch clause that the losing fighter can trigger.
Tyson’s wife and the mother of the couple’s seven children was extremely disappointed. She responded, “Two Usyk fights? There’s two?… Oh news to me thanks for telling me that. I thought I had him home after that thought that was the end of it… There you go so no I ain’t getting him at home… You just deflated my evening completely Kugan and I am not lying.”
It does not seem like Paris’ wishes are coming true anytime soon. In an interview with ESPN a week ago, Tyson claimed that he was ready to fight much longer. He said he was hoping “to sign another 10-fight deal.”
However, Tyson has never shied away from announcing his retirement. His problem has always been staying retired.
Tyson Fury’s retirement as per Paris Fury’s wishes in April 2022 did not last long
The first time Tyson retired was in November 2013. After his fight against David Faye got canceled, he announced on X that he had “officially retired from boxing”. His promoter insisted that he had not retired and Tyson returned in February 2014.
He also seemingly retired from the sport in 2016. Tyson faced extreme difficulties after his win over Wladimir Klitschko. He suffered from suicidal thoughts and mental health issues. However, the “Gypsy King” returned with a bang again in 2018.
His latest retirement was in April 2022 after defeating Dillian Whyte. Paris claimed that she wanted him to retire and end his extraordinary boxing career. Tyson obliged but not for too long. He announced another fight in July 2022 against Derek Chisora in December 2022.

“I was retired from April until July, so three or four months,” Fury later told Good Morning Britain in 2022, according to The Sporting News. “I needed a good rest after being in boxing for such a long time.
He said he wanted to spend time with his family but missed boxing. “After three or four months, I realized that I miss what I do. I miss fighting, training, gearing up for a big event.”
Even during her latest interview, Paris brought up Tyson’s short-lived retirement in April. She claimed that he just could not stay out of the ring.
