SUMMARY
- Caleb Plant has picked Canelo Alvarez to beat Jaime Munguia.
- Plant previously lost to Canelo in 2021.
Canelo Alvarez is back in action this weekend. After beating Jermell Charlo in September 2023, Alvarez will now take on Jaime Munguia on Cinco de Mayo weekend. With two Mexican fighters going head-to-head on May 4, it is certainly going to be an exciting contest for boxing fans. The question on everybody’s mind is, who will win this weekend and former Canelo opponent Caleb Plant shares his prediction.
Jaime Munguia, who hails from Tijuana, has a record of 43-0. Interestingly, his last opponent, John Ryder, has also fought Canelo. In that particular contest, Ryder and Alvarez went all 12 rounds on May 6, 2023, with the latter emerging victorious via a unanimous decision. Munguia, on the other hand, took only 9 rounds to get rid of the former WBO interim super-middleweight champ via TKO.

However, different match-ups have different outcomes and it will be interesting to see how the bout plays out this weekend. Jaime has the height and reach advantage, which may benefit him in the contest with one of the greatest boxers ever to grace the ring. But, fans have seen Alvarez going up against taller boxers such as Sergey Kovalev and coming out victorious. And, if Plant is to be believed, Canelo is set to win again this weekend.
Caleb Plant predicts a win for Canelo Alvarez against Jaime Munguia
Caleb Plant knows what it feels like to go up against Saul “Canelo” Alvarez. The 31-year-old only has 2 losses in his career and one of them came against Canelo in November 2021. While the Tennessee native had some initial success, the Mexican fighter figured him out and stopped him in the 11th round. Ahead of the bout this weekend against Jaime Munguia, Plant has given his prediction on it and picked Alvarez to win.
He said, “I see Canelo coming out with his hand raised, yeah. I think he probably stops him (Munguia). He gets hit quite a bit and he has been shook up by people who aren’t at that level. So that’s my prediction.”
Plant also added Jaime Munguia’s style will play a big role in the contest. While the 27-year-old is bigger than Canelo, Caleb thinks the latter’s pace will be a bit too much to handle for the youngster. Aside from the prediction, the former IBF Super Middleweight Champion also said that he wants a rematch with Canelo. Although he was proud of the first fight, the 31-year-old wants to beat Canelo Alvarez instead of being happy with a moral victory.
Caleb Plant wants to fight Jermall Charlo next
After losing to Canelo Alvarez, Caleb Plant bounced back against Anthony Dirrell in October 2022, However, he failed to capture the momentum as he ended up losing to David Benavidez in his following bout on March 25, 2023. So, what is next for him? Recently, Plant re-shared the footage of him slapping Jermall Charlo on his Instagram account and added that he wanted to fight Jermall next.
He wrote, “This is the fight I want, can’t make it anymore clear. You won’t catch me acting out for no reason and you won’t catch me letting someone play with me like that. “I’ll whoop your ass though”… that’s fine if you think that but you will have to because I’ll MAKE YOU do just that. So unless you’re ready to fight id suggest not playing in ANY grown man’s face. So let’s fight or leave me be and don’t mention my name anymore.”

For fans who are unaware, Plant slapped Charlo for allegedly pulling his beard and calling him a “white boy.” So, it will be interesting to see if the bout actually takes place or not. Jermall is coming off a win against Jose Benavidez Jr and is still unbeaten. Plant’s stocks, on the other hand, have taken a hit. Regardless, it will be a great fight, and if Canelo Alvarez retains his Undisputed Super Middleweight Champion status, fans will be clamoring for a rematch with Plant.
