With the 2023 Mr. Olympia competition just around the corner, bodybuilding sensation Chris Bumstead has given a big shock to his fans. The four-time Mr. Olympia winner appears to be quite unrested while preparing for his fifth consecutive victory this season.
When it comes to reflecting his best on stage, Chris Bumstead has always been determined to push his limits. It doesn’t matter if it’s prepping or peaking. Its results were seen very well when the Olympian secured the victory of the fourth Classic Physique Olympian. Even though, he was suffering from a torn bicep at that time.
Bumstead, nicknamed ‘cbum’ expressed how tough this season’s preparation has been on him. But it isn’t something he hasn’t dealt with already or can’t handle. The bodybuilder is considering this an opportunity to learn and grow. He also believes that this season would be extra rewarding for him.
As cbum penned down a touching Instagram post, discussing his possibility of retirement. He said, “I won’t pretend like it’s all optimism, I can be pretty hard on myself and spend days feeling pretty discouraged. I still spend time stressing about challenges when they arise, but that time is decreasing along with the shame of having those feelings at all.”

“I still have times I wish they never happened, but in the end when I’ve gone through all the ups and downs. The times where I’m motivated and the times I want to quit. I’ll be able to look back and know I allowed myself to feel those negative emotions, but I never submitted to them. That regardless of what happened, I woke up the next day and got back to work. There are few things more rewarding than that,” he further said.
Bumstead expressed his feelings on the importance of knowing when is the right time to say enough. Nonetheless, the bodybuilder said he is going to keep faith in himself and trust his decision to make the right choice when there is time for retirement.
Chris Bumstead’s future plans post-retirement from bodybuilding
Chris Bumstead has previously revealed that moving forward, his priority is to focus on his health and mindfulness, rather than making bodybuilding his whole life. Speaking on the subject, in an interview with the prominent YouTuber Chris Williamson, cbum opened up about his plans for the future post-retirement.
During the interview, Cbum shared that he made an agreement with himself and takes full accountability for his future goals in life.

The 28-year-old bodybuilder acknowledges his achievement in the field of bodybuilding but he believes that there are things that he hasn’t tried yet, the life he hasn’t lived yet. In addition to this, his prior, severe health conditions have also played a significant role in making him cautious.

He also shared his plan of quitting if things didn’t work out well for him in sports. He said, “I just kind of have to call it quits.” Bumstead has also previously hinted at taking retirement from bodybuilding.
