ONE Strawweight Muay Thai World Champion Prajanchai PK Saenchai has opened up about his chances at two-sport World Title glory.
The Thai superstar takes on former champ Jonathan Di Bella for the vacant ONE Strawweight Kickboxing World Title in the ONE Friday Fights 68 main event this Friday.
The blockbuster showdown between two of the best strawweight strikers on the planet goes down at the historic Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand, on June 28.
At the pre-fight press conference earlier this week, Prajanchai gave his thoughts on the matchup with Di Bella.
“I feel very honored and happy to be fighting one of the top fighters in the world like Jonathan Di Bella, and I’m very happy and excited to face him this Friday,” he said.
“Jonathan Di Bella has very fast hands and very good boxing skills, especially in his combinations. I have to overcome this by being fast or faster than Jonathan Di Bella’s boxing skills.”
“I have the size disadvantage against Jonathan Di Bella, so I will avoid trading, but I will try to find the opening to knock Jonathan Di Bella out.”
Both men are accomplished pugilists, with Prajanchai a former WBA Asian Champion and Di Bella holding an undefeated record as a professional boxer.
Is Muay Thai King Prajanchai a kickboxer now?
Strawweight Muay Thai king Prajanchai PK Saenchai is still a Muay Thai fighter at heart, despite his ONE Strawweight Kickboxing World Title shot against Jonathan Di Bella at ONE Friday Fights 68.
The 29-year-old is a veteran of nearly 400 fights in the national sport of his homeland. While the chance to become a two-sport World Champion was hard to turn down, he told reporters at the press conference that his focus will remain on his native rule set moving forward.
“I don’t think there’s going to be any change in my career,” he said.
“I definitely want to stick to Muay Thai. But getting this belt is like another level for me to achieve.”
Prajanchai made a successful kickboxing debut last year, paving the way for his highly anticipated showdown with Di Bella.”
The PK Saenchai Muaythaigym representative outpointed Akram Hamidi in his first foray into the kickboxing realm at ONE Friday Fights 34 in September.
