Despite his heated rivalry with two-sport king Jonathan Haggerty, former ONE Bantamweight Kickboxing World Champion Alaverdi Ramazanov is refusing to look past the test that awaits him at ONE Friday Fights 68: Prajanchai vs. Di Bella this Friday.
“Babyface Killer” clashes with another former divisional king, Petchtanong Petchfergus, in a high-stakes bantamweight kickboxing clash at Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand, on June 28.
Petchtanong is a veteran of more than 400 fights, with WBC and WMC Muay Thai World Titles to his credit, as well as the ONE Bantamweight Kickboxing World Title that he was stripped of after failing an out-of-competition drug test last year.
Despite the credentials of his opponent, Ramazanov told reporters at the pre-fight press conference that he remains confident of getting the job done.
“I’m always prepared to fight for three rounds, but I’m a great striker, and once I see an opportunity to knock my opponent out, I’ll take it,” he said.
The Russian star held the bantamweight kickboxing strap from 2019 until 2021, and he unsuccessfully challenged Thai legend Nong-O Hama for the ONE Bantamweight Muay Thai World Title in 2023.
Alaverdi Ramazanov not getting carried away thinking about Jonathan Haggerty
Ahead of his crucial battle with Petchtanong Petchfergus at ONE Friday Fights 68, Alaverdi Ramazanov is not thinking about renewing hostilities with two-sport ONE World Champion Jonathan Haggerty.
The pair have history after third ranked contender Ramazanov stormed the ring to confront “The General” in the wake of the Brit’s dominant win over Fabricio “Wonder Boy” Andrade in November.
The 29-year-old sparked somewhat of a rivalry with Haggerty with the dramatic scene, but that won’t be on his mind when he’s in the ring with Petchtanong.
“I’m very happy that I’m fighting Petchtanong and I’m not thinking about the future. I’m only focused on my fight against him and then we’ll see what happens next,” he said.
Haggerty, for his part, has his hands full in the meantime.
Alaverdi Ramazanov defends his ONE Bantamweight Muay Thai World Title against flyweight kickboxing king and top flyweight Muay Thai contender Superlek Kiatmoo9 at ONE 168: Denver on September 6.
