CM Punk was previously a part of AEW from 2021 to 2023. However, owing to a backstage altercation, he was terminated by the promotion. Following the firing, AEW announced the news on their social media account. Also, Tony Khan appeared on the successive episode of AEW Collision in Chicago to address the situation. Thus, many things happened after Punk’s release.
However, now it seems Tony Khan has stated why he chose to address the situation following Punk’s termination. He was recently seen in an interview with Insider. During that, he said, “Chicago is home to my family“. Thus, his connection with Chicago pushed him to speak to the live audience.

Tony Khan was then asked why he didn’t interact with the fans from inside the ring and instead chose to address them from the ramp. He said that he wanted to see everyone when interacting with the live crowd. Khan also mentioned that he decided to sit down to engage with the audience.
He then added, “I felt I at least owed that much to the wrestlers and the fans, to go out there and talk to everybody…It meant a lot to go out and speak to the fans and be able to put on a great show”.
Thus, Tony Khan finally came clean with terminating Punk in his hometown, Chicago. However, after the firing, Punk is currently a free agent. Now it is to be seen what decision the former AEW star takes moving forward.
CM Punk WWE return
Since CM Punk became a free agent, several speculations have been going on regarding his upcoming future. Many have predicted that Punk might once again return to the Stamford-based promotion.
Punk was previously part of WWE from 2005 to 2014. However, now it seems fans are speculating about his return to the company. They have also speculated that since the WWE PPV event Survivor Series 2023 is all set to be held in Chicago, the former AEW Star might make his return at the event. This is because Punk also hails from Chicago and a possible return to his hometown will be a megahit situation.

However, nothing has been confirmed as of now and there might be a possibility of the former WWE star returning to the promotion if both parties are able to come to a deal. Meanwhile, WWE CEO Nick Khan recently spoke about Punk’s possible venture into the company.
He said, “Listen, we only have respect for Phil. We appreciate his run here. We appreciate what he did and tried to do with the UFC. Not many people can actually get in there and do what he did. So, when we have respect for Phil, we wish him nothing but the best.”

Thus, Nick Khan gave a controversial answer and didn’t respond with a yes or no. However, since he didn’t say a clear ‘no’, there might be a possibility of Punk’s possible return to the promotion. Only time will tell if it will indeed happen.
Survivor Series 2023 is all set to take place on November 25, 2023. Fans would wait with high anticipation to see if their speculations might indeed come true at the PPV event. Till then, they would wait with eagerness to witness any reference regarding Punk coming from the Triple H-led promotion.
