Tyson Fury Steroid: Has the "Gypsy King" Ever Tested Positive?

WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury has faced drugs allegations time and again.

In 2016, the Gypsy King was suspended by the UK anti doping committee after the boxer tested positive for steroids.

Reportedly, Fury was suspended few months before the rematch with Wladimir Klitschko but it was only revealed later that the boxer had already withdrawn from the match for an altogether different reason.

Test samples of Fury and his cousin Hughie had high levels of nandrolone, a banned anabolic steroid, back in February 2015.

The brothers denied the allegations of intake of any performance enhancing drugs.

After a year-long legal battle, It came out that they ingested the substance in their body by eating uncastrated wild boar.

In December 2017, both Ukad and representatives of the two boxers released a joint statement- “agreed to resolve the proceedings”.

The settlement banned the cousins for two years.

.

In march 2020, Martin Carefoot, a 70-year-old farmer from Preston, claimed that he was bribed with £25,000 to provide written statements that would serve as evidence that the drug was present in the body due to the consumption of wild boar.

Tyson Fury’s promoter Frank Warren discarded the claims of Carefoot saying that the same man reached them with the same story, demanding money in exchange to retract the claim.

“Personally, I prefer to believe Tyson Fury ahead of someone who has already admitted to lying in legal documents for financial gain.” - Mauricio Sulaiman, WBC chief.

“The person who has claimed he accepted money to lie should be the one on trial, in my personal opinion, especially when he has waited five years to tell his story.”

“Secondly, around this time Tyson was not involved with the WBC, he did not fight Klitschko for the WBC belt, it was for other titles, so this issue does not impact on him being our heavyweight world champion.”
