With the 2024 NBA Draft less than a week away from taking place, Bronny James and his potential destination continue to be a subject of interest and debate among the basketball community. To the few who might not be well informed on the issue, Bronny is the eldest son of Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James and has declared for the upcoming NBA Draft.
Given that LeBron has expressed a legitimate desire to play alongside his son before ending his NBA career, the interest and attention that Bronny has generated when compared to other draft prospects is quite great. There are several teams that have shown an interest in adding Bronny to their roster. However, most of them should think twice before deciding to utilize a valuable draft pick to get Bronny.
Bronny James appears to be quite picky about which team to work out for
Considering that Bronny averaged poor numbers in his one and only college season, fans must certainly be confused regarding why he turned down various offers to work out individually with several teams before the NBA Draft. According to reports, Bronny has only participated in workouts with the Los Angeles Lakers and Phoenix Suns.
Although Bronny did not do too well in the combine scrimmages, the fact remains that any team that selects him will have a chance to bring LeBron James onto their roster. Or at the very least, gain some leverage with the Lakers to facilitate a trade and add some solid pieces to their roster in return for trading Bronny to the Lakers. However, there is no way to know for certain that any of these scenarios will go down as expected.
LeBron James may settle for playing against Bronny James
While LeBron does wish to play alongside his son, he likely knows by now that his desire has given Bronny a great deal of attention from teams across the league. Therefore, many teams would consider using a draft pick to get Bronny merely for the sake of potentially bringing LeBron onto their roster.
Since the 4x NBA champion still wishes to pursue another NBA title before retiring, he might fight off his desire to play with his son and settle for matching up against him on the court. After all, joining a bottom-tier team and sacrificing any chance to make the playoffs is something that LeBron James will not want to do.
Thus, any team that drafts Bronny will have to accept that there is a good chance that LeBron does not follow his son. As a result, they should think twice before wasting a draft pick on Bronny James.
